I might offer that both the system model generation and the disc version are factors influencing whether the nav diagnostic menu is available. Here are a couple of data points - although this may or may not be relevant to your specific vehicle. My 2002 SC430 (gen 2/3) with the v9.1 nav disc does still display the diagnostic menu with the motion override. On the other hand, my 2006 ES330 (gen 4 I believe) with v7.1 disc has the diagnostic menu available but it doesn't seem to contain an override function (although it did have the motion override with the 2005 disc that was delivered with the car). Sorry I don't have any info for systems after 2006. You could very well be right about the 2007 assertion above.

I'm wanting to get the 10.1 update for my wife's RX350. I find that the discoung at Sewell is .97. Whoopee.

But, as they noted you can sell your old one back to them for $50 (if you have the right one).

I was going to see if I can determine what one I have. I looked at the install instructions on their site, here.

But I guess I'm dim, because I can't make sense of them. It says:

Push the “MENU” button on the remote operation controller.

I have no idea what a 'remote operation controller' is.

The instructsions say to disengage the 'two clips and two guides, and remove the front console cover.

I'm not sure about that either. The diagram doen't look like anyting in the car. And I'd swear I've read on this forum that the dvd is in the back of the car.

Any thoughts?

Default Update DVD

The Remote Operate Controller is the computer mouse on 2010 and newer RX 350.

Your 2008 has a DVD player in the back trunk area. All you have to do is with the car on. Press the button on the player and the disc comes out.

Thsi is the Lexus Navigation web page.

A 2008 RX350 uses this update.

Thanks for the info.

I presume the upgrade is as simple as changing the DVDs.

Default Some Sites to Ponder

We also have a 08 RX with a version 7.1 in it. After attempting to enter some "favorites" we found that the streets or numbers weren't being recognized. So I decided to investigate upgrades. I found this site...which appears to be a very angry man's effort to correct the LEXUS override issue.

http://www.lexusoverride.com/index.php

I also found an eBay link from a TX dealer (Park Place, which might have been previously mentioned) selling 10.1 versions for $181....shipping included (shows 18 as being sold and seller shows 100% satisfaction...so I'm guessing the DVDs work).

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/LEXUS...fAudioQ5fVideo

It really makes you wonder how bad Lexus wants to take us for each year, if you are keen to stay 'current'. Seems odd knowing I paid $119 for LIFETIME map upgrades for a portable Garmin Nuvi.

Default Nav opinion

I have Nav in my Lexus and I also have a Nav app in my iPhone4. The iPhone has more current maps and works well with turn by turn audio directions. It does have a smaller screen but much higher resolution. The app (Mapquest4Mobile) was free. I don't plan on updating my DVD.

But $181 doesn't seem like a deal to me as I can have my local Lexus dealer update the DVD for $199 and they do the update. If something were to go wrong they would be responsible for correcting it.

It sucks that we have to pay for updates. This will become obsolete soon. With the advent of the FREE navigation on phones...who needs a NAV that you have to spend a couple of hundreds every year or so?

Here is where it is on Australian (Japan built) 2010 RX-350 model. The eject is found in the navigation menu.

I just bought a 2008 RX 350 with nav last weekend, and bought the 10.1 disc. I'm looking in the "back" for the nav controller and can't find it. Any hints.

I looked in the trunk wells and even popped the floor panel off by the rear door. I looked under the back seats. I'm not even sure where to look now.

I appreciate any advice.

Default Nav Disc

Welcome to Clublexus. Just a couple of tips for you and any other new members.

Search Google prior to posting any questions. If you have no luck.

Use the search function on Clublexus. It is outstanding.

Every question you could possibly think of asking. Ever. Has already been answered.

If your looking into how your car operates. The owners manual for your car is online at this Lexus web site.

https://secure.drivers.lexus.com/lexusdrivers/home

It also has a great search functions.

If after all this you have no luck. And want to start a new topic. State which type of car and equipment you have installed. For example the year. Is it a 330 or 350. FWD or AWD. Mark Levinson or Premium Stereo. Navigation. Rear Entertainment. Does the system work and your only getting a warning. Things like that.

On your Navigation Disc. The second generation RX Nav computer is in the trunk. Under the plastic tray that holds the jack. If you pull the whole plastic tray out. You will see the computer on the right side. Just push the lock button. Then the eject. And your disc will pop out.

Good luck and welcome to Club Lexus.

Thanks WC5Wes. I appreciate the advice.

It was exactly as you said. I pulled up the carpet tabs, and unscrewed the 2 bolts holding the plastic tray holding the jack. The DVD player for the Navigation system was underneath the tray in plain sight. The entire operation takes about 10-15 minutes to complete for my 2008 RX 350. I'm guessing it's the same for all the generation 2 RX models.

As a note, I bought the 10.1 gen5 DVD using a Craigslist search engine covering the entire USA. The guy was out of state and I paid via PayPal. I texted him first, and he had it to me in 4-5 days. I probably should have waited for the 11.1 version in the next month or so, but I live in a relatively new addition and it now has my subdivision loaded so I'm happy.

Also, I had used Google and searched for the physical location of the DVD player. That's what took me to Club Lexus and this thread in particular. That's why I joined, and with your help I'm glad that I did. Thanks so much.

I'll try to be a good, considerate member of the forum and not be redundant.

The 2008 should be similar to the 2006. I've posted some pics here

See if that helps.

Other than 'some' updated maps and saying goodbye to the accept button. Are there any other changes in 10.1?
