Default Disable Auto-Lock?

Can this be done? Yes, I did a search and found one thread, but could not follow what the person was doing, and whether they were disabling or enabling something.

My goal is to disable the function that locks the doors when after starting the car it's put into gear. If anyone has the procedure, I would appreciate it.

I also checked the manual. It says to "contact your Lexus dealer". My closest dealer is 90 miles away.

Thanks, in advance.

as i understand it, there is a list of options one can turn on and off, the downside is that it MUST be done be the dealer with there scan tool.

when you purchase the car new, you are entitled to one "free" option adjustment, after that they will charge, i would guess anywhere from .5 to 1.0 labour charge.

There are instructions in the manual (at least for my 2006 400h there are). The only thing I found is you have to be really precise about the 5 seconds..

The directions in the manual work, but you have to be really really really precise about the 5 second count. Here's what I did (I take no credit for this though, I found the tip about the : somewhere on the web via google). Just follow the directions from the manual but use the method below to time the 5 seconds.

See pasted message below.

I had been trying to do this on my 2006 RX400h with no success. I was getting quite frustrated till I found a post somewhere where someone advised that they counted the flashes of the : on the clock display.

I tried it and it worked!!! What I did was push the lock button to lock when the : was not displayed on the dash clock, held it, and counted 5 flashes of the : on the dash clock. After the fifth flash, I released the button, and the door locks cycled indicating the programming was successful.

Of course, depending on what you're trying to program, you may need to be in neutral and you may need to hold the button to unlock. The manual explains it all. In my case, I was trying to activate the autolock when moved out of Park.

By the way, to cancel whatever you've programmed, you just go through the procedure again.

I read my manual, and I've searched other posts. None of them was clear to me.

I want to DISABLE the auto-lock (when you put it into gear). Everything I've tried has no effect.

This is direct quote from the RX400h owner's manual, I cannot be sure if this applies to the RX350 but you can try

- Locking linked with the shift position
All doors are automatically locked when the selector lever

You can set or cancel the automatic door locking

Be sure to apply the parking brake when performing the following operations.

To select the locking linked with the shift position:
1. Close all doors and turn the ignition switch to the “ON”
position.
2. Shift the selector lever to the “P” position.
3. Within 10 seconds of turning the ignition switch to the “ON”
position, press and hold the driver’s side power door lock
switch in the lock position for 5 seconds and then release.
The doors will be locked and unlocked to indicate that the
function is set.

To cancel the function, do the above operation again.

MowMow, thank you so much! This worked great! We opted for the unlock when in park, and I can't tell you how much aggravation you have alleviated!

It's great that it worked for those of you who were looking for instructions. That's what the forum is for, but, seriously, this information IS in the owner's manual.

If you get time, (what else are you going to do while in the bathroom) you should really read the manual from front to back. It's full of somewhat important information.
