Rear window spoiler/wing replacement on RX
Hi,
I need to replace a rear-window spoiler/wing (black plastic one at the top of the rear window) and on my 2007 RX 350 and I was quoted by my dealer $850 for the job. Here's the breakdown:
* $550 for the spoiler itself
* $100 for the gasket/adhesive
* $200 for labor
Does this seem right? I was told that it uses bolts and special gasket/adhesive and it is a time consuming job. $850 for just a piece of plastic seems pretty high but what I know...
Any help would be appreciated. Thank you
Kris

...another thought/question. Does anyone know part number for the part? Perhaps I can order it myself, do it through a trusted body shop (or even myself) and save a few hundred $$$.

The rear wing spoiler houses the stop lamp. They will probably sell you the whole assembly, hence steep price.
Tell us why you need to replace it.
We had a member who replaced the stop lamp assembly and they had to take off the whole spoiler. Not an easy job.
And yes there is a seal that runs all along the bottom.

I agree with Veleno, go to a body shop and ask them to use plasti fiber to fix it, it's only a spoiler and spend only $300, spend the extra 200 to paint the spoiler and blend in with the rest of the car.

Ouch! Sorry that happened to you.
I am with the above recommendation. Get it repaired by patch. A good shop will do good work and you will not even notice it. It is not a highly visible part.
Do not spend good money to get that rectified while on the car.
Good luck.

Thank you very much all for feedback. AirJames, let me get back to you in a few days. I'll see what a local body shop has to say about fixing it and depending what I find out, I might just make a deal with you. Thx again.
Best regards,
Kris

I'd be happy to hear your offers and will consider them but I just realized that since I haven't purchased, I may have to detach mine somehow and wait for the custom one. Has anyone worked on painting their own or has seen how to take it off?

James
