I watch my car like a hawk and make sure I see them crack those bottles. I can't believe the audacity of some people!

One thing I am very glad to say is I do my own, or shall I say my Mechanic friends do them while we hang out. I have been at my oil changes every time for 4yrs both on my Scion and the last two changes on the Lexus.

The only times I don't actually 'see' the oil change is when the car(s) are at the dealers. Otherwise, I look at what the mechanics are doing.

It's unfortunate but very true. BMW owners too!

Don't. It's a cash grab and doesn't do anything to benefit the engine.

*also may harm the engine... just do regular oil changes and youll enjoy many more miles to come
It's synthetic! It'll last forever! I believe BMW's prepaid maintenance only pays for oil changes every 15k miles. Synthetic or not, I would never wait that long. I've always changed my every 5k (not synthetic) on every car I've owned. Never had a problem. My Honda S2000 uses a quart every 1k miles anyway. So it constantly has fresh oil.

S2000 uses a quart every 1K miles, that's normal? If it is, why? Just wondering.

Strangely enough, yes. Owners manual says you might have to add a quart every 750 miles. Something to do with Honda's VTEC system. It just burns oil. From what I've heard it's common on a lot of Honda VTEC cars, not just the S2000. VTEC on that car engages at 6000 rpm. The more you run it past 6k, the faster you burn oil. Synthetic is almost pointless, it burns faster than conventional.

I just recalled that there was a thread on this, or maybe another forum I visit, about a guy who went through a divorce and his spouse was awarded their new RX. She got to drive it and he got to make the payments. Well she never changed the oil and 30,000 miles later it was running through oil faster than gasoline. Maybe that car has appeared once again.

I believe I recall that the consensus was that he should switch to heavy weight racing oil and drive it till it drops.

I owned Acura-s, and still own one. Everyone was/is with VTEC engine. None burned oil at all. Mileage on these cars was typically close to 100K or above. I do push cars, as I’m lead-footed and like to accelerate.
BTW, I use synthetic oil and do oil changes at 7K-10K miles. 7K if I drive primarily in the city or mix, and 10K if miles are mostly highway.
Just my 5c.

BMW offers free maintenance oil change during warranty period every year/anniversary or 15k, whichever comes first. Ther eis nothing to prevent one from changing oil earlier.
