Default In need of a spring

Jumped in my RX this morning and noticed that the "Close" button on my center console had popped out. Not sure how that happened, perhaps when I grabbed my laptop bag from the passenger side. Latest in a series of problems with the center console on my 2004 RX. At 30K they replaced the entire unit as it would no longer open or close. I am the only driver and hardly ever use the console to be honest.

The button will pop back in and will stay in place, however, the spring attached is of poor construction, very thin, and has seen better days. Would like to replace with better if possible.

Dealer says the spring(s) are not available separate. You need to purchase a new center console at $100+. Not worth it at that cost. Will check the local auto salvage to see if they have any RX's on the lot.

Was wondering if anyone has any thoughts on a route I might take on this repair or if anyone else has had a similar problem.

Appreciate the input.

Wow that is the definition of a stealership... I don't know how to help you though, here is a link to a good dealer with illustrations.

Good luck in finding our RX in a salvage yard.

I'd be inclined to take the console apart and see if a similar spring could be found at a hardware or hobby store. The console is fairly easy to remove and disassemble. If that doesn't work, there are consoles available through http://www.car-part.com/
I'm not sure what the shipping costs would be though.

I just had the close button pop out on my 08 RX too. I put the button back amd it would not come back up after the console was closed, I missed that the spring had fallen off the little post on the back. When I took it apart again to find out what was wrong, (took off the open button) I saw the little spring on the open button . I found the spring on the floor in the back. When I put it back together the button on the open button would not pop back up. After taking it back apart I found I had put the button back in a little crooked when I got it straight it worked fine. Good luck fixing yours.
