I was skeptical at first, but the pictures don't do it justice. In the metal, the RX looks a whole lot better without those roof racks. Glad I did mine now. I just ordered 1 side and will cut it up to fit the holes left in my car. Will post some before and afters as well.

By the way the Lexus code I got for the roof inserts are

75551-48030 (LH)
75552-48030 (RH)

There are for the non-panoramic roof inserts and are half the price of the panoramic roof inserts, which were part numbers 75551-48041 & 75552-48041.

Finally got a single piece roof insert and cut it up and filled in the 2 holes that were left when the roof racks were removed. I found out that in Australia, the roof racks weren't an option they were just fitted. When I checked with the Lexus dealership they advised me that they do not sell the whole single piece, only the 3 pieces that would be visible when the roof rack was installed. Anyway the car finally has a proper seal up the top and it looks the goods. Yay!!!

Finally got round to getting the pictures and posting them up. The problem for me in Australia is that Lexus doesn't sell the single piece that would run from the front to the rear of the car. Apparently in Australia all the RX's were sold with the roof racks so it wasn't really an option to run without it. As a result, I bought the centre piece of rubber which measures about 1m or thereabouts. This meant that I had to cut this piece of rubber for my requirements. To make it easier, and to minimise the number of cuts I had to do, I did the following:

* Removed by roof racks as per normal.
* Slide the existing centre piece forward to meet the front piece of rubber.
* This extends the rear gap where the roof rack used to sit.
* Got a single centre piece from Lexus and proceeded to cut it to fit the gaps. For me the measurements were a difference of about 60mm (i.e. the driver side gap was 23.4 and the passenger gap was 22.8 cm's roughly). The rubber was hard to cut because it has a piece of aluminium in the centre that needs to be cut through.
* The advantage now is that if I do need to put the racks on for something in the future, I can just remove the extra pieces, slide the centre long piece back to middle and install the racks (and I can put the 2 extra bits in the hidden trays in the boot).
* If you are going to do this project, make sure you do it when it isn't raining, as although I had it covered up some water sneaked into the back somewhere, and I am now trying to get rid of a bit of a mouldy smell.

Apologies for the dirt as I haven't cleaned the car for a bit

Quote: The one piece Panoramic moon roof inserts are the best way to go. 100 dollars each from the dealer.

Part Numbers:
75551-48041
75552-48041

To remove the entire rack.

Did you have to take the bolts out completely? I bought the one piece moon roof moldings but they didn't fit with the bolts in place. Ended up taking the bolts out and sealing up the bolt holes. Looks much cleaner than the patches that came with the Sewell kit.

Yes, I kept the bolts out. And put some RTV on the bolt holes.

I also noticed that there is about a 1/4 inch gap on the front edge. So I also applied some there also. So water wouldn't collect there.

Quote: Those one piece strips look great. I am just hoping i don't lose any of the plastic caps that came with the Sewell Kit.
The clips need to be bent just slightly to hold the cap tightly. I used a small hammer and a flat screwdriver to just spread the clips enough to hold the cap tightly.

Repaced the Sewell kit with the Moon Roof one piece molding... Looks great. The one thing I found out the hard way [with the Sewell filler kit] was that there is nothing holding the center pieces in place other then some friction. Lost my driver side center molding in the car wash. At least now the one piece molding is clipped front and rear. Got an extra sewell kit now if anyone is interested...

What did you guys do with regards to the holes where the roof racks used to bolt into? How did you fill them up? Is there a solution that I could use that would allow me to put bolts back in there if I needed to use the roof racks one day?

The kit from Sewell included bolts that go back into the RX, along with a washer. I used a bit of teflon tape around the treads before installing the bolts as an added measure.

What sort of bolt would be needed if not using the kit from Sewell and just using the rubber strip?
