Default Satellite Radio Install

My friend has an 09 leased RX350 with not many options besides HID's. His wife drives it mostly and she has since decided that she would like either sat radio service. Since this a leased vehicle (2.5 years left) and they will not be buying it at the end of the lease, they need something that is easy to remove and leaves no signs that it was there. I have been hired to get all the parts and install it. I'm thinking about a VSM mount located to the right of the climate control. A suction-cup mount is a no. However, powering it off the floor 12v outlet is a yes. A magnetic antenna is also a yes. I have no idea what to do as far as an aux input/FM modulator. They are open to anything as long as it works with the stock head unit. Is there an aux input on it?

Can I get some feedback or pictures of your sat radio installation?

Thanks for your help!

I installed a Delphi XM unit that uses a magnetic mouint antenna, routed along the winshield gasket. I also made a mount to sit on the floor between the dashboard and the sliding console. The 12 volt outlet is right there, and it utilizes the cassette as the input. I don't know if the 2009's still have the cassette. The nice thing about it is I can remove the XM tuner, and drop it into a base unit for my home stereo. Car and home XM for $180.............can't beat it.

My wife has Sirius wired in her car. The unit is located above the rear view mirror where it appears to be getting the power. The antenna is located next to the radio antenna. The wiring appears to be run under the headliner on the passenger side and exits at the rear gate. I'm not sure how it is wired to the stereo. Possibly down through the A pillar. This was already wired when I bought this pre-owned and I don't subscribe or use the service.

Pick up a VAISTech SL2xmt and an XM Mini tuner. Alternatively, you can get the OEM XM tuner for around the same price. Either will install and integrate seamlessly with the factory radio, and can either be left in when returned, or pulled back out (in case they're getting another Lexus, or you want to resell the kit).

That's a great product idea. I'm not sure if they want to spend that much. How hard is it to install this product and where does it plug into the radio? It says no FM modulators.

It took me 60-90 minutes to install the previous version (with a seperate XM Direct box instead of the attached tuner) and hide all the wires and everything. The car looks 100% stock except for the 2" square antenna on the roof.

It plugs right into the back of the head unit, and integrates completely with it. To listen to XM, you hit the "SAT" button, select channels with the tuning ****, set presets, etc. Channel name/number, artist, and song title come up on both the radio display as well as any secondary display (such as nav). Everything works as if the radio came with XM from the factory and you never installed anything.

I talked to my friend tonight. I told him about this kit and he loved the idea. He told me that he should have ordered the RX with factory XM and this is a close as he can get. He gave me the green light on the kit. Thanks for showing that to me. I can't wait to get it and install it for him. What special tools are needed for the install?

A ratchet, magnetized (or ghetto adhesive-equipped) deep socket, flathead screwdriver, and I think that's it. A putty knife helps too, for forcing the antenna wire up under the door sills without taking them off. But it's a pretty straightforward deal with standard tools, at least it was on the 2nd gen. Don't see why it'd be much harder on the 3rd.

Where exactly does the kit plug in on the back of the head unit? Is there an existing sat radio port?

The instructions are here. You unplug one of the cables that's currently attached to the head unit, plug it into a Y-adapter that comes with the device, and plug the other end of the Y-adapter back into the head unit.

Are there instruction on how to remove the head unit? I don't see where that is explained in the manual.
