Default Driving Belts

Hello,

My 2005 RX330 needed new driving belts at 48,000 miles. Dealer said these were not covered under warranty. Warranty book does not list them as not covered. Should I contact Lexus?

Thanks,

I recently inspected my belts prior to taking a long trip. I'm at 45k and the belts look like new. I'd maybe have another mechanic verify the need to replace the belts.

Welcome to the Club. The belts are usually a 90K replacement item. I just can't see how these belts would have to be replaced that soon.

Has anyone replaced their own serpentine belt? Is there anything special about the procedure, like OEM parts/lubes required?

I have a 99 RX and that does not use the serpentine belt. The serpentine in other Lexus use a self tensioning idler.

'99 uses two belts (each around $15 from dealer).

There is a write-up in RX300 so I would not repeat it here.

Just be careful that the tension needs to be correct. I bought a tension gauge to set it properly.
