I'm not positive, but I'd guess it takes less effort and fewer steps to launch a nuclear missile.

Sure, but it takes two people.

Programming the keyless and immobolizer is two different steps. The procedure shown above is keyless only. not sure if the immobilizer is a DIY..

Will this work?

1. Close all doors.
2. Insert an already programmed master key into the ignition.
3. Turn the key from the OFF to On and back OFF FIVE (5) times.
4. Open and close the drivers door SIX (6) times.
5. Remove the key from the ignition.
6. Insert the new key you want to program into the ignition.
7. Turn the key to the ON position.
8. Wait 2 minutes. The security light will be blinking for this one minute. When it stops blinking your key is programmed.
9. Remove your key
10. Open and close the drivers door 1 time.

NOTE: You have 35 seconds to complete steps 1-5 and 10 seconds to complete step 7. If you do not do this procedure fast enough the car will not go into programming mode and your key will not program.

If the security light does not go out after 2 minutes start the procedure over again.

Call the Toyota dealer, your best bet in finding out.

I'm pretty sure they can as long as they have a device that hook up to the computer and program it. Even some local locksmiths have these devices.

bringing this thread back again hhaha... I am having the hardest time finding someone to program a Lexus key here in GA (Warner Robins). The local Toyota dealership cant do it, and the Lexus Dealership in Macon wants $350. All i want is for someone to cut and program my ebay key haha!

Can anyone in GA point me in the right direction? Thanks!

You have an 05 RX which means it is still under warranty. If you get your car serviced with the local Lexus dealer, it should not be a big deal to re-program a key bought off some other place.
If the dealer does not to do it for free, there are locksmiths who can do it for you…I do not know of one here in GA. Time to get on the phone and start calling. I am sure you can find a locksmith who can do this. Let us know when you do.

i found a locksmith in warner robins to do the cut and the immobilizer. starts up and drives great. he could not however program the keyless entry. ironic, i thought the keyless would be the easy part!

I have an old remote from an ES330 and want to use it in a new key blank for a RX330. The dealership said they would program a key for free but it would have to be a brand new remote. Once a key is paired with a vehicle it can not be programmed on another vehicle. Any truth to this or can I buy the blank shell, us the old remote and not tell them?

If any thing is consistent in this thread, it is the inconsistency

My RX master key shell broke. I purchased a key blank (OEM) from a member. When I called a reputable locksmith [who claim they do cut Lexus (among other) car keys], they insisted on charging me to program the key. I kept insisting that all I need is the key to be cut. My least cost route was to take the key to the dealer and they cut it for me.

I have heard of some cases where the dealer have refused to cut NON-OEM keys, citing that other keys can damage their machine.

Siting the Lexus corporation, my dealership will not cut a key unless purchased through them. They will not cut independently purchased stock/oem Lexus keys purchased from the internet or another dealership BUT they will pair/program my walk-in key.
