Default One Dead Headlight

So while driving tonight, i noticed that one of my headlights on the drivers side was out. when i got to my destination, i confirmed that it was out. when i left, i started the car and the bulb came back to life.

ive never experienced a dead HID bulb, but if its anything like a household lightbulb, i dont think its suppose to come back. i might also note that this headlight was changed entirely about half a year ago when i was involved in an accident that required it to be changed (the insurance did not want to cough up 5K for a new headlight, but they eventually succumbed). anyways, im not sure whether its a dead bulb since its relatively new.

so should i get it changed? if it a loose bulb? do i need to bring it back to lexus?

my dad received a fix-it ticket least year for having only 1 healight and i dont want to get one.

seems like that would be an unreliable/loose connection. next time you notice it's out, lovingly tap on the light assembly and see if it comes on. at least for me, never experienced a bulb of any kind doing that for any other reason. regardless, i hope it's something simple.

PS. 5k for a light assembly? ouch. I know they are pricey and have the eyeball technology and all. Had a ding up in my GS awhile back and had to have 1 replaced. Cost of light assembly was $1100. Don't know what the all in price was as it was part of a slightly bigger job.

Is it HId?

For some reason if the ionization stops the bulb goes out, then you need the boost by the ballast to get it going.

Start by checking for loose connection. ... [investigate around areas which have been worked/cleaned recently]

Its not the bulb, you probably have a bad connection or bad ballast.

Could be a few things but IMHO your ballast might be on its way out. It could also be a bad ground, but that is unlikely in the stock wiring.

The headlight electrical system was worked upon after the accident.

We can safely say the bulb is OK.

I would bet on loose connection or pinched wire.
