Default IPod Interface kit

I found this IPod interface kit at www.lexuspartsworld.com and wondered if anyone has purchased and/or installed this.

I just heard back from the dealership where I bought the car on a quote for the IPod interface unit.

$246.00 for the unit.

$180.00 for installation.

I called another dealer and was quoted $299.00 installed.

Guess which dealer I'll be going to.

This product was introduced in Europe a while ago. The Toyota part# is
PT545-00082

It is available for $199 on a Toyota dealer Website.Remember this is toyota part why pay premium.

$199 here

steering wheel audio controls
• Displays the music text information on the radio’s
display
• Has the ability to search and play back by song,
artist, album, audio books, genre and even play
lists
• Provides direct high quality audio connection
• Charges the iPod while the vehicle is running
• Comes with all cables necessary to get started
• Glove box location enhances security by keeping

This unit only works on 2007-2008, NOT 2006.

The only negative with this product is you will loose the Satellite Radio functionality

I found this Lexus Accessory Communications on the IS Forum. When I called back the orignal dealer to ask him why he quoted such a high price his reply was "The MSRP is if it is installed when the car is being built. For us to install it would take 2 hours at $93.00 per hour along with the cost of $246.00 for the kit.

Talk to your dealer about whether or not the lexus kit will work. Vaistech has several that definitely will.

I am little bit inclined towards the Scosche ipod adapter. There is a demo posted on you tube where the company rep says that the adapter works for 2004 & up Lexus/Toyota vehicles both on Nav & Non Nav models.

It works thru the Sat button and you will not loose access to the Satellite radio after installing this product.

The best part is you can control you Ipod thru the Touch screen Navigation screen!!
They are also providing an input for DVD players.

Model is: Scosche AXIPTA

Vais also works with satellite radio and maintains all controls via the steering wheel and stereo head and some models give ipod control via touchscreen. I almost added the Scosche link in my post above and got lazy since i had vais bookmarked.

Scosche is a viable option. Seems to be less used here than vais but it works. It's cheaper than vais too. My experience with the Scosche tech support line has been positive.

Does Vais allow you to control Ipod via the Nav Touch screen.

I wish the Microsoft sync comes standard on all vehicles. Ford has an exclusive agreement until end of 2008.Used the sync product on a rental vehicle recently and it is amazing

See the lis of supported players not just Ipod

Vais SL2i will work with an RX and allow touch screen control of an ipod. very similar to the scosche axipta. Look the vais website or contact their support line if you have any concerns. nothing wrong with the scosche unit either. if you are price sensitive, it's definitely cheaper.

this entire thread may be of interest but see post 25 on this page
