Default First 1500 miles

I am a recovering Benzoholic and this is my first Lexus, 08 AWD RX350. So far I like the car, although I don't get to drive it much because it's my wife's daily driver. Last week we took it to Seattle. I averaged about 24 MPG round-trip at speeds of 70-75 MPH. In town my wife gets solid 17.5 MPG.

On the way over the tire pressure light started blinking, which pi$$ed me off. The owner manual said "system malfunction". I was thinking, "Crap! this is excactly why I am tired of Mercedes, because of all kinds of mafunctions". Anyways, I stopped by Lexus of Seattle. They re-set the computer and told me that there is nothing wrong with the pressure warning system. Turned out it was never initialized when the vehicle was sold to me by Lexus of Portland.

While I was waiting for the service some moron salesman tried to sell me a RX400H, offering me $37K for my 1-month 1300-miles old RX350 "trade-in". I told the guy that I was there for a service and he still kept going. Funny.

I noticed that about 60% of RX driver are women. Am I seeing things or is it true?

Are you not sure that you made a good choice?

There is warranty and Lexus as company stands behind the vehicle.

Read the owner's manual cover to cover and enjoy the vehicle.

There is a long list of initialization that the dealer has to do. Hence they are paid ton of money. Stay away from the dealer who sold the car....gives you a hint of the service you will get...

Unfortunately the nearest dealer, the one who sold me the car, is in Portland, 45 miles away. He is the only Lexus dealer there. The second nearest is in Eugene, OR, which is 65 miles away. Not that many different choices there. As far as the warranty is concerned, it is all great, but I will have to waist half of the day for every visit. So, hopefully it was the last time I needed a warranty service.

My '05 330 has been to the dealer one time for a fogged headlight that was replaced under warranty. Other than that, the car has been flawless. I wouldn't worry about it.

I don't have a feel for the percentage of female driver's but this is my wife's car (I drive a BMW 3 series). If this was my car, I certainly wouldn't give the gender question a second thought. I love the way the Lexus looks, drives, and handles. It is a great cross-country car and it will be in our family a long time.

Not sure of the actual percentage, but when my wife got her RX last month,
I was talking to the Sales manager and he told me the RX attracts more women buyers than men. Based on my own observations in traffic, parking lots, etc, when I spot an RX, its usually a women behind the wheel.

I still have an older MBZ, which I am planning on replacing at the end of the year. Until recently I was thinking about getting an IS350 or a GS350. But since I drove the RX few times I am seriously thinking about getting another RX. I am almost 44, and I just realized that I reached an age where the IS/GS cool looks and performance are not as important as the RX comfort. Now I am all gender-confused. If I drive an RX people will think I am a woman! Darn it!

Arnie - good stuff. I'm actually looking forward to the RX as a daily driver when I buy the wife a mini-van...true, it's probably mostly soccer moms, but I LOVE the car. (current DD is '01 IS3). Enjoy it.

P.S. A close friend of mine has his garage filled with MBZ and Land Rover's. Everytime he comes over, he has a service loaner. lol

I agree that it seems that more women drive RXs than men. And in our case the RX is my fiancee's daily driver, but I still love driving it when I get to.

The GS is actually more comfortable inside than the RX, but very small trunk. If you are looking for cargo space, forget it. Here in the Northeast, 90% of RX owners are female if not more.

I don't think you can single out the RX 350 as a ladies car. Who mostly drives an Acura MDX? Toyota Highlander? BMW X3 and X5? Volvo XC90? Must I go on? They are women. Most families do not want to have two SUV's, so the lady of the house drives the SUV for space purposes for kids, packages, etc, the husband might want to drive a sedan for better gas mileage. There is nothing about the look of the RX 350 that makes it a ladies car.

Although the RX350 does look less like a lady's car than the RX300, it is still driven by mostly females. I would put the RX right up on top of the list of cars that is driven mostly by females along with Highlander, M3 and of course the VW beetle.

I believe that RX is a female-oriented vehicle. Our RX is driven by my wife, and by me only on family trips.

Any crossover SUV, and especially RX, is a chick car. I consider only frame-on SUVs as being manly: 4Runner, GX/LX, etc

I had big issues when i was deciding on my RX350 and the gender factor.

I went to the LA auto show the weekend before i bought my car and looked at all the competetion[RDX, X3, Highlander]; but after looking at them all and sitting in them and going over them with a micro-scope, the RX350 was defintely what i was going to buy (mind you $45k was around the max i could afford).

It didn't help that my best friend drives an LS600HL and wouldnt let me buy anything but a Lexus. I made sure i bought the color the ladies would most likely not drive- Sage Green Metallic! I feel pretty manly in this color HAHA!

Three months later, i know i made the right decision.
