Default Pinging at engine start? 2007 RX350

my pop's been complaining that his RX350 sounds like its pinging right after start up. It's cold in Winter but today it's 65 out and it still did it he said. Anyone have this problem? Car has 10k miles. Thanks fellas!

First try to figure out, if it is engine knock (pre-ignition) or injectors or lifters. If you use synth oil, the lifters sound for a bit and then they quieten out.

WHAT??, are you saying synthtic oil causes the lifters to make noise?
No way, nota chance. If anything it is just the opposite. Synthetic oil flows better when cold & allows for better & faster lubrication to all parts in the engine

One of the side affects of internet. My opinion is based on my observation. Apart from synth or dino oil, the lifters can click for a bit.

was using mid grade but just switched to 93...he used 87 in his Bimmer and had no problems so he's a little shocked. His first Lexus. The dealership was the only place who has changed the oil so I'll have him check that out. thanks

There were TSB #EG019-07 on IS350 and #EG020-07 on GS350 (same engines, I think), regarding Brief Engine Knock/Rattle Noise at Cold Startup. I'd take it to a dealer and let them mess with it.
