DIY: 30K Service
I am reaching 30K Mileage on my RX. And I heard you can do most of the service by youself and save some $$. It's ~$400 at Lexus dealership.
Here's what the manual suggest for 30K Service:
Replace AC Filter ~$30
Replace Engine Air Filter ~$15
Replace Engine Oil/Filter ~$30
Rotate Tires Free @Discount Tires
Road test vehicle ???
Replace Brake Fluid no idea how to do this
Inspect the following: no idea how important all these are
- Ball joints and dust covers,
- Body
- Brake lines and hoses
- Brake linings/drums and brake pads/discs
- Drive shaft boots
- Exhaust pipes and mountings
- Fuel lines and connections, fuel tank band and fuel tank vapor vent system hoses
- Fuel tank cap gasket
- Rack and pinion assembly
- Steering linkage and boots
- Transmission, transfer case and differential oil
I know there are several fuild replacements on 30K service, and does Lexus always replace all of them in their 30K?
Is this a really important service? Is it easy to perform (DIY)?

Replace Brake Fluid no idea how to do this changing brake fluid is easy but a little time consuming. Several methods but the tried-and-true method is to siphon the old fluid out of the reservoir (I use a turkey baster) and refill with clean, new fluid, replace the cover. Then go to the right rear, RR, wheel and bleed the line. If you don't know how to do that, ask a gear head neighbor (or do a Google search). Refill the reservoir, also called a master cylinder, between each wheel bleeding. Essentially a helper pumps the brake pedal with their foot - press and hold while you open the bleeder at the wheel. The bleeder should have a clear line on it and the line goes into a container. The brake pedal will go to the floor as the brake fluid is squirted out - thus the clear line to keep things from being messy. Continue to hold the pedal while you close the bleeder. Repeat the pumping process until the fluid runs clear. THis will take several steps due to the long brake line to the rear of the car. Then move to the LR, RF, and LF repeating as described. This is a real easy and basic DIY job. COVER YOUR FENDER with a thick towel and use caution when pouring brake fluid into the MC. Brake fluid will ruin paint if it drops onto the paint for even a second.
Inspect the following: no idea how important all these arethese are really nothing more than visual inpsections of lines and hoses looking for leaks or breaks, torn boots or wet spots indicating leakage
Here is a "how to" spot for many DIY maintenance items. The spot is for the 300 but most of these apply to the 330:

There are definite pros and cons to DIY on brake fluid. Check out the discussions on the following threads:
