Default IS Maintenance Schedule

Hi,

I recently purchased a 2008 Lexus IS250 RWD w/ 82,000 miles. It came with the original owners manual and looked for factory recommended maintenance and was unable to find it. I thought this was weird, but with just a little searching I found the information.
https://secure.drivers.lexus.com/lex...ce-schedule.do

I am wondering about the upcomming 90k Mile Service. It list the following:
Replace engine oil and oil filter
Replace air conditioner filter
Replace brake fluid
Replace engine air filter
Measure brake pad thickness and rotor runout
Reset maintenance reminder light
Road test vehicle
Inspect axle shaft boots
Inspect ball joints and dust covers
Inspect body
Inspect brake lines and hoses
Inspect drive belt(s)
Inspect engine coolant
Inspect exhaust pipes and mounting
Inspect fuel lines and connections, fuel tank band and fuel tank vapor vent system hoses.
Inspect fuel tank cap gasket
Inspect rack and pinion steering assembly
Inspect rear differential oil
Inspect steering linkage and boots
Inspect transmission for signs of leakage
Visually inspect brake pads and rotors

I have a feeling this is going to be pricey at the stealership. I figured I could do the following myself and call it good (Replace engine oil and oil filter, Replace air conditioner filter, Replace brake fluid, Replace engine air filter). Just curious what other IS owners typically do for these type of services , take to dealership / do it yourself / or inbetween?

Thanks

Dont fall for that! Just do what I did and ignore it for as long as possible. Once the car starts feeling weak and you start getting Check Engine light, THEN do it. I could never understand why people follow those ridiculous maintenance schedules.. Clearly the dealer just wants your money....

Im just pulling your leg lol. All of that stuff is basic routine maintenance that you can easily DIY at home with the help of a buddy. Or even by yourself honestly. Except for the brake flush in which case you may want a friend to help you. Either way just avoid taking it to the dealer, they charge waaaaay too much IMO. Good luck!

I know hes kidding but my friend does not take care of his 08 250 at all other than oil changes and his car made it to 280k km before showing signs of mistreatment (aka forced to fix everything all at the same time).

Having just completed my 90,000 mile service, I had the following performed at my local dealership:
• Replace engine oil and oil filter
• Replace brake fluid
Everything else can be completed with a little technical know-how.

IIRC, it was somewhere in the neighborhood of $800.00 for the full service. If you recently purchased it, I would recommend the 161-point inspection they have. It'll give you a detailed list of what can/could/will go wrong with the vehicle. I think it's, like, $150.00 or something.

Is that like a manual from the dealership?

The only things I had the dealership did was engine oil change and brake fluid. The filter replacements are very easy to do yourself. The dealer will inspect the brakes regardless.

Quick question. To change cabin air filter I know where it is the glove compartment. Now I have a 2012 is250 is this the right process. Hit the start button twice and set ac in circular mode correct?

Just geth these changed at the dealer:

Replace engine oil and oil filter
Replace air conditioner filter
Replace brake fluid
Replace engine air filter

The dealers check everything else anyway as they are looking for things to fix. The trick is to tell them just to do the above 4 items and NEVER say "do the 90,000 mile service"!

Yes, set it to recirculate mode. It should be in the DIY section of your car manual. You can actually see the cover going up allowing you access to the air conditioner filter.

I would also see if the spark plugs were changed at 60k, if not those need to be done too
