Default Do Cross Bars replace the previous Roof Racks?

This may sound like a stupid question but here goes. I have a 2007 RX 350 with the Crossbars. I still have the old Roof Racks from my RX330. While the roof racks will fit the 350 are they still needed? Do the new cross bars completely replace these roof racks?

The old 04 and 05 crossbars had issues, hard to adjust. They were replaced with a new design. They should fit vice versa. But the new ones are better in design than the old. There was a TSB on it.

So what does the TSB address? Do they replace the crossbars? Do they fix the latching mechanism?

They replace Cross Bars. They had a faulty design on the latch mechanism. I can clearly feel it in mine, when I attempted to adjust them.

So, next time I go in for service, I will definitely report on it. I am scheduled to go in, the parts for for my door handles came in.

Thanks Guys but do the new Crossbars perform the same function as the old removable "across the top of the rails" roof racks?

Yes, same function but easier to unlock and adjust locations.

yeah the latch was faulty on early RX330's. mine was fine for about 3 years and then one day i pulled on the latch to move the crossbars and the spring in there broke which prevented the crossbar from moving ever again. the TSB basically calls for the dealer to replace the crossbars which contain a better latch spring mechanism.

i would definitely get it done while still under warranty! i was "lucky" that mine broke the year before my warranty was out.

The one on my 04 broke as well. I ended up breaking all 4 latches and just removing the pins so the cross bar could at least be moved, although it could no longer lock into place. Because I had removed my racks, by the time I put them back on and it broke I was 10K out of warranty.
