Default Satellite Radio

Hi anyone have satellite radio installed in their 2007 rx350. How much did it cost? Did you have it done by the dealer? And did they have to take apart the dash board?

I had it dealer-installed and negotiated into the purchase. They protect the labor rate on this, with good reason. Not only do they have to take the dash apart, they have to remove the rear seat. Here's a link to the installation instructions:

The antenna will sit on the back of the roof, just inside the driver's side roof rack rail. I believe book time on installation is four hours.

Did it myself for $280 using the Vaistech SLX and XM Direct tuner. It took about 90 minutes, the majority of which was running the antenna wire.

Mine was done by the dealer, cranked into the purchase price. They have to remove the entire interior behind the front seats to get to where the satellite tuner goes. I walked back to look while they had it apart...boy, does it look empty with all that out.

I needed to get the interior out to install my ham radio a few months later. It was good that I saw how it went together.

Did you happen to take some pics and perhaps a DIY?

The DIY that Ken posted is what I used, along with the instructions for the factory XM install, just to get an idea of the best way to run the antenna wire. I should note that installing the antenna where I did (left side roof, basically opposite of where the FM antenna is), and running it down the passenger side of the car, the wire was about 2' too short to reach the center console. Luckily, the XM Direct fits just fine in the passenger footwell, with the control and audio wires tucking in nicely over the glovebox. You actually don't even have to remove the trim panel on the footwell to get it in there, just pull back on it a bit.

But if you put the antenna on the RIGHT side of the roof, or put it on the left side but run the wire down the drivers side of the car, the XM direct receiver will fit in the center stack with the SLX just fine.

I know this thread is a little old, however just wanted to let you all know that we had the XM Vaistech unit installed by the dealer and requested to put the antenna on the dash on the right side, where the glass meets the dash. So far it seems to work just as well as our friends external antenna with some "cutting out" under overpasses of course.

Very nice. Had I known an additional antenna was required I definitely would've done things differently. Unfortunately I trusted my salesman when he told me it was integrated into the existing roof antenna.

Do you not hate some people claiming they know everything? Then outright reneg and not even acknowledge after the fact? If you own up to it, then maybe you can be forgiven....

This is the story of my life...I recognize that it's a very small issue in the whole scheme of things but it still makes me mad.

I actually really like the salesman, and somewhat ironically he's the voice of the dealership on technology issues...nav, bluetooth, and sat radio. In retrospect I should've done my research but he seemed so confident that I believed him without exploring further. Oh well...
