Default 2007 RX350 Windshield

Has anyone replaced their windshield yet? I was trying to get an idea of cost and where you had it done (dealer or glass company). I was enjoying this fine vehicle on a long cross country trip when I unfortunately picked up a rock chip from a car next to me. The small rock hit about 2" away from the passenger side roof pillar. I thought I may be able to get it fixed. But when I woke up the next morning, the chip had grown into a crack about 4" long. On the drive back home, the crack got about 8" long and has since seemed to stop.

Be cautious in who you use and what you use.

Did you get this replaced? Usually the Insurance company recommends good places. Also should be covered (normally) under insurance. Check it out.

Well, I'm on my 3rd windshield, does that count? First, make a claim with your insurer, these windshields are very pricey, also, insist on OEM glass, especially if you have the rain sensing wipers. Your insurance company should be able to recommend an authorized installer who then will take care of the paperwork for you. Usually takes a couple of hours, but I had my last one done in just under 1 hour, second go on this windshield as the other had severe optical distortion, and yes it was OEM, just lousy Quality Control by PPG.

My sis has her windshield replaced with the auto sensing wipers for around $170 Installed. I expect Lexus glass to be around $600+. I dont think its worth it since its a windshield, its gonna get torn up down the road anyway. Just my opinion of course.

Default The cost of the windshield is amazing!

I got 3 quotes for OEM. All quoted the same price (?).

$1750.00 installed.

Yikes!!!!!

A windshield that is almost 5% of what I paid for the vehicle. I have Drive insurance by Progressive. Havent checked with them yet to see how they cover, but I have a feeling I will at least be paying the cost of my deductible.

Geico will only require you to pay $50 for glass repair as long as it is classified a hazard...size of crack, etc....chips....

Keep in mind the windshield is part of the unibody design and therefore adds to the overall strength of the vehicle. When my dealer was convincing me that the 3rd party trim shop was going to do good work on the ceiling creak repair, he mentioned that this is the only place he sends cars for windshield work. They let the car sit overnight to allow the adhesives to properly cure. The general windshield folks don't do that. His customers don't mind paying the extra deductible to ensure they A - have a proper installation of factory glass and B - maintain the original integrity of the design. I'm there with him.

Dimensions is the the same. A thicker windshield would add weight. An Acoustic Windshield usually have a special inter layer to quiet down the cabin by 2 or 3 db.
