I just took delivery on an fully loaded '08 RX350 AWD with the rear seat entertainment package, mark levinson, and navigation yesterday. During my pre-delivery tour of the car, I was told that I could insert a DVD in the front dashboard head unit and watch the DVD movie on the rear seat screen. Is this really true, because I have not been able to figure out how to do that? When I insert the DVD movie in the dash, the video only appears on the front dash navigation screen and the audio comes out of all the speakers in the car.
Also, is there a way to insert a DVD movie in the disc slot in the ceiling-mounted rear seat entertainment unit, and listen to the audio through the car speakers? I've only been able to listen to movie audio through the headphones so far.
I checked an RX manual and it says "The rear seat entertainment system is designed for audio or video viewing separate from the front audio system." I think you received incorrect information, as the instructions state the DVD should be put in the rear seat player only, and that sound requires headphones.
The front audio DVD system is separate; it will show the movie if the car is in park.
Hope you enjoy your RSES, that is one cool feature!
Place a DVD in the RSES, then you can press "DISC" at the front, (you must be in park and with parking brake) then click "PICTURE" on the screen, and there you have DVD playing on both.
The other way around doesn't work (or if it does please someone let me know!)
If one has the navigation system is it possible to play a DVD movie on the screen? I placed a DVD movie disc in my system and all I received was an error.
Place a DVD in the RSES, then you can press "DISC" at the front, (you must be in park and with parking brake) then click "PICTURE" on the screen, and there you have DVD playing on both.

Hey Folks, first post.
Yes, this is correct above. I have tried and don't think you can output video to the RSES from the front DVD though - at least not with the current connections.
