Default Cruising Range

On the Nav system on the Trip Info what kind of Cruising Range have most of you gotten? When I received my new vehicle the tank was full. On my first fill I averaged 19.5 mpg and the Cruising Range computed 283 miles on a full tank after that fill. I know it adjusts based on "driving habits and road conditions" as the manual states, but 283 after averaging 19.5 seems pessimistic! Just wondering what other people experience.

Thanks

In typical day-to-day driving my '04 RX330 normally reads 360-365 after a fill up. During a recent long distance trip it read as high as 415 when I turned the key for the ignition after filling up.

Thanks, obviously it does adjust to driving habits. When I finally go on a trip I'll be interested in seeing how quickly it converts from a city estimate to a highway estimate. In other words, how responsive the adjustment is to changing conditions.

I have it set up with the average miles/gal. It pisses me off if I am not hitting 20 in city...

Default Range still leaves almost 3 gallons in the tank

In my Lexus (2007 RX350) I get an estimated range of around 280 miles after a fill-up, but it hits 0 with nearly 3 gallons in the tank (I discovered this after driving and not noticing that tiny little orange light telling me I'm low on fuel). It always bothered me that the tiny, easy to miss light came on with only about 1 gallon of gas left (about 15.5-16 miles for me), but I was happy to learn it wasn't accurate at all and that when it comes on I still have nearly 4 gallons of gas left, 3 after the computer says 0 miles left to go.

Good information that it has at least 3 more gallons...still a better warning indicator would have been preferred.

i see 250...crap. My car averages 15 or less usually. Its AWD and i live in san fran with a lot of hills.

also, its not mile for mile. Its an estimate. If you watch your odometer and that trip computer, you will notice that it doesnt match up.

I think what happens on that range calculation is that when you fill up, the initial calculation of range is done using your last cumulative mileage figures. If you've been driving around town all week and gas up just before a long road trip, your range is apt to be pretty pessimistic - because the computer can't anticipate the type of driving you will be doing, it can only make an estimate based on what you have been doing. After a few highway miles have passed you will find your range is actually increasing - thanks to the new (lower) highway consumption data. It is rather odd though, to watch your range creep upward for a few minutes, even as you progress down the road.

When our 04 RX330 was brand new and all stock, we used to show about 370-390 on the estimated crusing range. Typically though we could only go about 330 miles before the light would come on and the crusing range would be down to about 20-30 miles. Our combined average gas mileage was about 22.XX miles per gallon. Then, I put on 20" rims and over sized tires and the cruising range went to about 320 or so and MPG went down to about 20 MPG. Then our state started using E10 gas and the cruising range dropped to about 280-290 and MPG went down to about 17-18 MPG.
