Quarter Panel Window molding fall off?
Hey everyone,
I had a question. Recently, the mold outside the passenger side of the quarter panel window mold fell off my RX330 (either through highway driving or the car wash) and the one on my driver side feels really lose too. it's the small triangular window closest to the trunk to give you a visualization.
I went to a local lexus parts dealer and they told me that they don't sell the mold separately and that I would need to order the part for the window and the mold which costs over 125 dollars. I would think that they would be able to sell the molding separately but so far it's not been the case.
Have any of you run into the same issue? I would need to pay the 125 for the part and 200 for labor but the parts guy said that he has heard of this happening quite often. Unfortunately, I purchased the car with 75k miles and it's already outside of its warranty. I'm just wondering if this is a common issue for RX owners and if there's a better way to take care of it. Thanks.

I actually had to fix that exact problem the other day!
I just took all the old 3m tape off the molding. Cleaned the surfaces with alcohol(both), and re-applied 3m double sided tape to the molding. Than just reattached it to the rear window.
It's on there stronger than before.
WoW~!!!! $125 for this problem
It took less than 10min to fix it and less than $5

Thanks for the reply. unfortunately, I lost the molding. pretty ridiculous that I need to buy the entire window just to get the plastic molding. seems like a pretty easy job.

Same issue with friends 05 RX330 in AZ a couple weeks ago (they winter down there). We were there visiting (and trying to find some sunshine) and while on freeway, notice the molding flapping (saw in side mirror). We stopped and I pushed it back into place. They took their RX to the local Lexus dealer and had it fixed under warranty. I would think that your warranty should cover this as it is considered a piece of body hardware.

Thanks Orzel. Unfortunately, my 04 has 75k miles on it and is out of warranty according to the local dealer. I've contacted corporate Lexus about it and I'll see if there's any way they can help out.

I had the same problem a few months ago. My dealer told me it happens on a very small percentage of RX's.
My car is still under factory warranty, so the trim and window were replaced free of charge.

Same here, dealer replaced 1/4 panel
Had basically the same problem as original poster, the molding was flapping in the wind. Thought it was something in my wheel well. Used silicone to stick it down, then a month(or less) later noticed it was completely missing. Dealer said it was not uncommon on 2004 models. They replaced the whole window. They said you can't really fix the molding, its more than just a loose molding. Fortunately, it was still under warranty.

Yeah, Lexus corporate called me back and said there's nothing they can do about it. No help with labor or helping me get the molding instead of the entire window. This sucks. I would think that Lexus would stand behind their product.
What's worse is that the molding is coming loose on the other side. I may just take it off and add some glue to keep it tight. only a matter of time before that one falls off...

Can you show us where this is?

OK, this is the side molding on the pass side. Faulty double sided tape. They did not use 3M?
