Cruise Control Problem
The cruise control sometimes does not disengage
Sometimes it takes a rather hard hit to the brake pedal to disengage the cruise control. I haven't been using it since but have to take it to the dealer to check out. They want $100/hr. to look for the problem. I have the Platinum Extended Warranty but they say that does not cover the time it takes to look for the problem.
HELP, anyone else have this problem on their '04 RX??

Did you have the brake pedal switch replaced as part of the recall (#4LH) announced in December, 2004?
The switch, which is normally depressed, is released when the brake pedal is pressed. (Pushing the brake pedal toward the floor moves it away from the switch under the dash.) The recall was done because the switches were corroding in Japan, but back then they didn't have any instances of problems in the U.S.
To see if the switch is the problem, see if you have to press the brake pedal equally far to get the tail lights to come on. Since it's the only switch there, pressing it should both illuminate the tail lights and signal the cruise to cancel.
If the tail lights are easier to operate than the cruise, then I would guess the problem is somewhere else in the cruise control system.

When I stopped in to make the appointment they told me that the switch could be the problem but they said that it was replaced under the recall so it just may be out of adjustment. If that is the case they said I wouldn't have to pay anything. Last night when I was out I pushed the pedal down it it took a little pressure before the lights came on so I'm hoping it is just a small reajustment.
Thanks for the help.

Took it in today & they kept it for 3 hrs. Let us drive a '06 GS 300 as a loaner too. Just needed a small adjustment to the brake switch & NO CHARGE either.
Thanks - Lexus of Brookfield.
