Default Wheel Gap

I just thought I would post my findings on the RX and other SUVs. I just walked up to some SUVs in parking lots and measured wheel gap by counting how many fingers fit between the fender and tire. I know it's not very accurate but it gives an idea of wheel gap on different SUVs. Here are my findings:

Infiniti FX: 4 fingers (approx 2.75")
Nissan Murano: 6 fingers (approx 4.1")
Subsaru Tribeca: 4 fingers (approx 2.75")
Lexus RX 350: 8 fingers (approx 5.5")

This confirms the huge wheel gap on the RX and the jacked up look. We are definitely going to drop our RX by about 1.2" using H&R or TTE springs to improve handling and visual styling.

I have wondered why the gaps is so large on the RX. I can see so much above the tire, I find myself washing the springs when I clean my RX. I have never done that before on any vehicle I have ever owned.

Just upgrade your tires to 255/55/18 with 5mm wheel spacers and you'll get a more filled-in wheel well look.

That's not a bad idea but it still won't help the leaning on the corners problem. The springs should increase the handling and responsiveness of the RX. I also feel hisitant filling in the wheel gap with tires that are bigger diameter than stock. I think that may decrease performance, fuel economy and throw off the speedo. Have you noticed any of these things on your 255/55/18 setup? I think 255/50/18 is stock diameter.

See this calculator. It is very interesting:

Utlimately I want to do both the wheels and springs!

235/55/18 is the stock diameter, not 255/50/18. I haven't upgrade my tires to 255/55/18, but plan to once the original tires wear out. See https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=225407

Sorry I assumed that you already had the 255/55/18 setup. Yes you are correct that 235/55/18 is stock diameter. To maintain stock diameter and go wider, you would have to do 255/50/18, which is what I may do. 255/55/18 is too large and will prob throw off speedo and fuel economy and performance.

The purpose is to enlarge the stock diameter to fill in the wheel gap without having to replace the springs or stock wheels. I like the look of CK6Speed's 255/50/20, but prefer having the stock rims.

I can't seem to find the thread (it may have been deleted), but someone had 22" rims with low profile tires and wanted our opinions on his setup. Some didn't like it given the huge wheel gap and the rims not being aligned with the wells. One even thought they were 18" for this reason! I prefer the big, well-planted look of the FX, X5, and Cayenne.
