Default Bluetooth Phone - RX350 vs. 330/400h

I know the limitations of the Bluetooth phone ability on the 330 and 400h have been discussed before. That is, essentially no way to dial out, except for One-touch, from the Nav screen while driving, and no way to manually enter contacts into the car's phone book if your phone doesn't support synching contacts.

I know the '07 RX350 has an updated Nav system. Can somebody with the 350 indicate whether Lexus has improved (or basically removed) any of these limitations with Bluetooth phone ability, and especially provided a way to manually enter contacts, in the 07 RX350?

Thank you!

With not knowing the earlier models specific details.... I know that my phone does not support transferring phone book entries to the RX350. I have entered all my phone book entries manually into the RX350, without any data transfer.

Yeah, in the RX330 and 400h, there was NO way to enter phone book entries manually if your phone did not support the transfer. Looks like Lexus at least got that right in the 350.

How about dialing while you drive in the RX350? Can you use the normal phone book or dial manually (from the nav screen, not from the phone itself) while driving, or can you still only use the one-touch entries while driving?

While driving, you still can't dial a number from scratch. It must be pre-programmed. The only exception is with Voice Guidance, you can SPEAK any number and have it dialed.

It all depends on what type of phone you have. I have a 2007 RX350 using a Motorola v3. I can transfer contracts via Bluetooth to my RX. The only downside is you have to do it one contact at a time. So you can't just say send my whole contact list. A pain in the beginning but once you get through that how often do you really add people and delete people?

You can also use voice guideance to speak the number "dial by number" or you can use "dial by name" to speak the persons name you already have in your phonebook. If that's not enough you can pre-program speed dials, a total of 3 tabs with each tab containing 6 entries, so you can use the NAV screen to speed dial even while driving 75 mph

No phone/PDA appears to support transfer to the RX350. My Palm Treo 680 does not, and the comments I've seen elsewhere say that the Windows Mobile ones don't, either.

You can only have 20 phone book entries with voice tags, and you have to program the tag yourself before you can use it.

I had to upgrade from a 650 to the 680 in order to work at all. The 650 would not connect reliably to the car, and would not stay connected if it did manage to get that way at startup.

You can only speed dial 17 entries...the sixth position on the first page is the number you dialed last.

I have a Sony Ericsson Z525a. It paired up with my RX350 easily, connects reliably (even if the phone is in the house and the car is in the driveway) and stays connected. I was able to transfer items from the phone to the car, but only one at a time. It wasn't a big deal for me because I don't have that many contacts that I needed to transfer.

So far this phone has worked great with my RX.

Also, if you need specific instructions for your phone, go to www.lexus.com and type "bluetooth" in the search box at the bottom right hand of the screen. You can download instructions right from the web. Search for your phone and carrier and then download the PDF file.

This is great if your phone is listed. The Treo (any version) is not, yet the 680 (at least) works okkay.
