Gen 5 Nav Info
I searched the forum and can't seem to find an answer to this question, does the RX400h already have the Gen 5 Nav system? I know that the new RX350 does but was curious if it had already been implemented in the 400h.
Thanks
Thanks
Posted over in Audio/Tech forum but got no response so I'm tryin here:
Hi all. I keep hearing about the Gen 5 nav. I am looking at getting a 350 upgrade for my wife from her 330 (want the Nav and more power). I've tried doing a search but haven't come up with a good description of the Gen 5 nav.
I drove the 400h and wasn't all that impressed with the nav and all of the bluetooth dialing limitations etc. that I've read about here. My car is an Infiniti M35x and I love the Nav and bluetooth.
Can anyone link to a description or explain the differences of what was in the Gen4 and what will be in the Gen 5? Obviously all of the Nav stuff, but also Bluetooth upgrades (I've heard you can do numeric voice dial now?) and is the stereo integrated in the display?
Thanks in advance!

a while to list them all. I'll try to remember as many as possible. You can register (pair) up to 6 phones. You can manually enter in your own phone book with multiple listings and icons provided. You can dial by voice command but it takes practice. You can dial by name such as "home" by storing your favorites dials and naming them. You still have the one touch dials as before. You can add a pause and tone for getting into voicemails and store it for repeated use. The phone book takes 1000 numbers.
The screen is double the resolution and an easy to read font is used. There is a shadow effect on the numbers/letters that gives a little 3D look. There are 30,000 colors on the VGA screen and the icons offer finer graphic detail. The navigation system has more advanced graphics like a horizon view when a turn is approaching. More points of interest ( about a million more )It is very fast at computing destinations and displaying them. You can do a route trace if you need to record a particular route. You have more setup functions and you can have different users and their own preferences as before. I feel that this is the biggest change in the Lexus navigation system hardware and software since 1998. It is a delight to use. The voice command is better but cumbersome when asking for an address. You need to say the State ( then get confirmation) the City( then get confirmation) the street etc. etc. If any of the steps are incorrect you can get stuck trying to say them over and over until it recognizes you correctly. The voice command takes practice.......even though it has much more capability.

It is likely that the 2007 RX400h will have the Gen. 5 Nav. The RX350 will have big improvements in the loaded models. The Gen. 5 Nav and its Bluetooth functions are quite an upgrade. The 42 Horsepower gain, new transmission software and the limited slip center differential all point to more performance and fuel efficiency. This is a generational shift in engine technology which will continue in the first of the new gen V8 LS460 in the Fall. The new RX350 performance is very close to the RX400h. The next logical step would be to incorporate the new gas engine technology into the Hybrid version. The RX400h is still the most advanced SUV on the planet because of its VDIM stability system and its Hybrid Synergy drive. The RX350 will not offer VDIM.

Thanks Rockville! Those were some of the exact things I was looking to hear. I appreciate you taking the time post them!
Are you aware if there is a .pdf manual available for the RX350 or even the Nav online? I have an Infiniti and one of the nice things they do is post the manuals so they are available for anyone to see. Does Lexus do anything similar?
Thanks again!

but they seem to put me to sleep. The newer style manuals offer better graphics but still are lacking. I think there are PDFs as I've seen posts about that. I don't know of the URL's though. The RX350's should arrive in a few days. An alternative would be to look up the IS250/350 manuals. Some dealers are sold out of nav equipped IS250/350's but you can usually find one if you are persistent. The screen alone and the new font style are very sharp and easy to read.
When you are backing up the live view is very crisp. i'm still finding and learning the new features but it offers video game level graphics.

from information so far. The IS250/350's are standard with an Aux port in the armrest for IPOD's or MP3 players. I hope this becomes a commonplace feature but a lot of RX owners are using the vestigual cassette slot to put their IPOD adapters into. I would prefer a dedicated input and eventually steering wheel control but that might take a while...

Sorry to keep pumping you for info but your responses are greatly appreciated!
Does the backup camera have the predictive guide lines? I have an Infiniti M35 and the backup camera lets me thread a needle. It has the fixed guides for distance but it also has an overlay that moves with the steering wheel and shows you where you will be moving before you start to back up. It's incredible! I thought I read something on the new IS that has guide lines and wasn't sure if that was what they were referring to.
Any idea?
Thanks again!

with Nav/ I'm going to play with them as soon as they are PDI'd. (Pre Delivery Inspection)The Lexus Nav does not have any guiline overlays like you are describing. You can view your bumper at the bottom of the screen and you can tell if there is an inch between your RX and the car behind you. It also does not have the lane change reminder feature which can be irritating after a few minutes of beeping. It does not have the very nice Cartier analog clock that has become an Infiniti trademark. It does however outsell the entire Infiniti linup all by itself warts and all.

"nearest Hotel" then say "Show list" then push the one on the list that you want to go to. There is a "Transfer call" switch on the Bluetooth call screen so you can pick up the handset for a private conversation. You can store a route trace on the screen up to 124 miles and reuse it if needed or erase it. The system seems the same as the IS250/350 so far.
BTW the MSRP is $46,583 with Nav. here in the East.

Awesome info Rock! Thanks for sharing.
My wife has a 2005 RX330 now and she loves it. I just find it a bit underpowered and we didn't get the nav or backup camera which I want her to have.
Now I want to get her the nav and camera but I also want more power so I can drive it. I just needed a touch more power. I drove the 400h but the warped windshield killed it for me.
I thought I read in one of the car mags/websites that the backup on the IS does have guidelines for the backup so I thought I'd inquire on the 350.
Thanks again!
By the way. . . anything else different in the 350 now that you have 3 on the lot? Spill it Rock

Also known as Intuitive Parking Assist
Contrast with the Intelligent Parking Assist in the 4LS which does the driving for you.
