Default Auto headlights idea

When i have the lights on auto, and it rains i have a major problem. The lights dont turn on when its raining outside.
Which is why i think lexus should connect the auto lights to the wipers as well so when they turn on, the headlights do as well.

Anyone like? I hope they do this

Cool Inventions wanted!

Sounds like a great idea, I have the same problem with turning on the headlights (and TAILS) in fog and rain. Right now I just turn on the lights manually, and TRY to remember to shut them off when I arrive at my destination (I'm SO spoiled!.) The only problem I see with your idea is in a light sprinkle your lights might be going on and off with the wipers unless there was some kind of 4-5 minute time delay on the lights. Hmmmmm . . .

I'm okay with it if they make it a user option on a switch. Where I live we don't have fog, and while it does rain, it is not nearly as severe as other places. I do turn on my headlights during the rain, but I don't want the headlights turning on every time I clean the windshield, or when we have really light rain. We do have the rain sensor wipers, and auto headlights, but I never use them. I find the wiper never really wipes when I want it too, and the lights turn on when I don't want them too at times.

I think he's saying the previous poster was being insensitive and should go to the dealership for a sensitivity adjustment.

I hope that's a joke!
I think what 604Lexus is saying is that the sensitivity of the auto headlights can be adjusted through the C-BEST / LPS settings. The dealer would have to make that change in the computer.

I read that as the dealer was being insensitive. Boy, if they've found an adjustment for THAT, it will revolutionize the industry!

The most useful C-BEST/LPS setting for the wipers is for the re-wipe after using the washer fluid. That's the function where the wipers operate once by themselves a few seconds after using the washer fluid to catch any lingering drips. By default, the delay before the re-wipe is variable based on the speed of the car. Other options are off (disable the re-wipe) and fixed 3 seconds regardless of speed.

The only other settings for the wipers disable the rain-sensing system or disable the slowdown of the wipers when the vehicle is stopped. (The computer will change the speed from "LO" to "INT" (intermittent) when you come to a stop, and then change it back when you start moving again.)

The automatic headlights have 5 levels of sensitivity. The default is the middle setting ("normal"). You can have the dealer change it two levels in either direction - more sensitive or less sensitive.

(Above info is based on a 2004 service manual.)

Just a quick note.

On other cars I own the headlights and windshield wipers work like this. . .

If you use the "mist" feature (quick 1 wiper pass by pulling the stalk towards you) or are washing the windshield your lights will not turn on.

If you have them set to intermittent or lo/hi then the lights will stay on as long as the wipers are in one of those modes. When you turn the wipers off your lights turn off (or stay on if it's night time )

That way you don't have them flashing when you wash your windshield or just hit a quick single wipe.

Do you think the 01 LS430 will have the rewipe function. It sounds pretty handy. Is it already on or does it have to be turned on?

The re-wipe was a new feature for the 2004 RX330... don't know if they thought of it in 2001 or not. The LS is usually the leader for new features, so it's possible.
On the RX330, it's turned on from the factory.
