Backup Camera when reversing
Anyone know if this function can be permanently added so it can be turned on at my leisure? I know Lexus do provide one time (free) personalized settings and am wondering if this can be incorporated into the personalized settings.
Thanks,
Thanks,
This is not one of the C-Best settings (those to which you refer) and cannot be changed by your dealer. I understand the JDM (Japan Domestic Market) RX 330 has an option that includes a steering wheel mounted switch (on the left spoke) to select the rear camera or either of two rear-quarter cameras. Evidently this is to assist in really tight parking situations, common in Japan. For the US market, this feature is not available for safety reasons.
You might try carefully sliding the gear selector into reverse while on the freeway. . .
NO, NO j/k!!!

The camera test activates the rear view camera if the car is started. The car doesn't have to be off to get into the service menus, and the parking brake doesn't have to be set. In fact, you don't even have to be in park. It is quite possible (though probably not a good idea) to do it while the vehicle is in motion:
1) Make sure your headlights are switched off.
2) Press & hold the information button
3) flip your headlights on & off three times with the switch on the end of the stalk
4) press the blue button in the upper right corner to get to the service menu
5) press the bottom button.
The rear view monitor is enough to make me nauseous just driving through the parking lot.
Getting out of this mode is a bit tricky:
1) Press the blue OK button in the lower left of the camera test screen.
2) Hold the Info button & flip the headlights 3 times to get to the first Japanese menu.
3) Release the Info button
4) Hold the Info button & flip the headlights 3 times to get to the 2nd Japanese menu.
5) Press the blue button in the lower right.
You are now back to normal.
Be very careful about doing this while driving. Just because you can doesn't mean it's a good idea. It takes two hands and a fair amount of coordination, which doesn't leave you with a lot of steering ability. I did it in a parking lot at slow speed with no one around.
More useful things to do at speed would be to monitor the speed or GPS coordinates.
