I put a deposit down on an RX400H last September. At the time, they said the cars would be available in April, and I was willing to wait six months. When I called my dealer last week (Coliseum Lexus, Oakland, CA) they affirmed that they'd be getting their first cars in April, but told me that my deposit was number 53 on their list, and they'd be getting about three per month, which puts me, optimistically, another year out. Just to confirm, I called another local dealer and was told that they're taking deposits now for deliveries in two years!

What are others hearing about this? Is this just a local California shortage, or is it everywhere?

 

Welcome to Clublexus. Demand for the 400h exceeded all expectations. There are over 10,000 depostis for it already!
Lexus will send 24k RX 400hs to the United States its first year, out of the total 30k made. They expect 25% of RX sales to be 400h sales.

The Prius still has waiting lists and that car has been out for 2 years now.

 

I feel your pain. I put in a deposit last April and I'm number 30 on the list! So, I believe the demand is even greater in NJ. I understand the dealer has over 120 deposits and doesn't want to promise more. Another dealer 30 miles away advertised for people to reserve their 400h in January. I called up and they only had 80 people on their list. Let's hope that there are more than 3 per month arriving because that was Lexus' excuse for taking so long to deliver the cars.
