Default AC Blower Motor - what to replace

THe AC Blower motor in my 2008 Lexus RX350 seems to not move enough air. Runs slow, I guess.

What should I replace?. Apparently, there are three components:

1) Blower motor itself - Part No 87103-08080
2) Blower Motor Resistor - Part No 87165-22050
3) Blower Motor Control Module - 87165-04010

Also where should I buy these from. THere is always Toyota but very expensive. And you get Blower motors in Amazon/Ebay for $35 ~ $55. I do not want to install a sub par quality part as my daughter drives this car and I do not want her to deal with car issues. That is what Dads are for.

Have you tested the motor itself? From what I've seen and experienced lack of airflow can be things like old or improper air filter, leaves/paper sucked into intake I really haven't heard of the motor being the problem. when I got my RX 18 mo's ago the motor was making a noise, when I finally checked it I found there was no filter in it lots of leaves and debris around the fan baldes it was fine after cleaning

I agree with Leeper. Check your cabin filter first

Apply battery voltage to the blower motor, connect the negative (-) lead to terminal 1(Y) wire of blower motor connector, and the positive (+) lead to terminal 2 (R) wire, if the blower motor operates smoothly then it's OK.

Next step would be to check the blower motor controller and amplifier. Let us know.

I had to clean the fan blades they had crud all over them making it highly unbalanced/noisy also used electrical contact cleaner on the motor itself it helped a lot

Most common culprit when an interior fan is weak, and that’s a severely clogged hvac air filter, you can just remove the old one and see what it looks like and if the air flow improves without one. If it’s solves your problem then just get a replacement. This filter is mounted behind the glovebox and can usually be removed pretty easily. The next possible cause would be the blower motor resistor has malfunctioned. When this is the problem your fan will have the same, low pressure, on the 3lower fan speed settings and then if you turn the fan speed to the highest speed it will blow much faster. If your blower motor is worn out then it isn’t going to turn on at all, this is really rare but can happen.

My overarching question is - does the 2008 Lexus RX350 use both the Blower Motor Control module (Part No 68048901AA) as well as the Blower motor resistor?

What is the difference in their functions?

The air path/filter/cowl/fan blades are all clean.

Yes, not just on 2008 RX350 but on every vehicle, and a simple explanation is :

Blower motor resistor = blower motor controller = control blower motor speeds using the signal from A/C amplifier

Blower motor control module = A/C amplifier = A/C ECU = control the entire heating and air conditioning (compressor clutch, idle speed. ect.)

Some have called blower motor resistor as blower motor control module!

Where is the AC Amplifier = Blower Motor Control Module located? Can that go bad resulting in less air movement? What would be its Part Number?

So many great posts above.
Don't quote me but I think the AC Amplifier aka module is a small black box located under the glove compartment.

Pull the plastic stuff out of the way and remove the glove box and shine a flashlight straight up at the front edge under the dash closest to you.

Yes but less likely.
Don't just replace parts, you will need to test the blower motor controller, A/C amplifier, circuit between the two units (SI - BLW). Test terminal 1 (GND), terminal 3 (B+), terminal 2 (SI) and terminal 4 (VM) of the blower motor resistor. Best of luck!

A/C Amplifier = 88650-0E021
Blower Motor Controller = 8716513010

OP can check the voltage at the blower motor.
Just probe the blower motor plug and see the voltage when the fan speed is turned up or down and let us know what you find.

Thanks so very much for guiding me. Does the AC Amplifier (Part No A/C Amplifier = 88650-0E021) from a 2008 ES350 fit my RX350?

I ask because I find a lot of ES350s in junkyards nearby
