TPMS light flashes for a minute or so then stays on. Fellow at DT says one sensor is dead; the rest are weak.
I believe a couple are OEM; a couple are replacements necessitated when the dealer’s stupid N2 caps caused dissimilar metal corrosion on the stems. Grrr.
Not sure if I can DIY it but looking into it. I purchased as shown 315 MHz. May try on the full size spare if I can physically manage. If so is there an inexpensive reset tool that works on this model or do I need to take it somewhere? Can’t be done via OBD, can it?
Seems like the ideal solution would be a transceiver in a box that translates sensor signals to Bluetooth and links with a phone apps thus saving the cost of a display and buttons beyond a power switch.
Wish I could unpot the battery from the existing sensors, replace, and repot. Then no reset needed! Probably a stupid idea.
You cannot replace the battery in them, you have to replace the entire sensor, besides, even with a new battery the rest of the unit is over 8- 15 years old and way past its expiration date.
You need to break the tire seal from the wheel to access and replace the TPMS. Very difficult and dangerous to attempt at home and best done by a tire shop or repair shop with proper equipment. Call around as prices vary a lot.
I and other members believe the cheapest places to get TPMS replaced are Discount Tire and Costco. They will sell and install and program the TPMS.
Since you were already at DT, did they not give you a replacement quote?
