Thought I'd share this quote with y'all, just for spark plug replacement (120k.) Looks like they want to take the valve cover removal route to do it, and they want all they money they can get for it. $187 for spark plugs??? Yeah, ok.
I've said it often, dealers charge @$400/hr real rate labor but hide it by showing "$120/hr book rate". This is @3-4 hour job for a good mechanic.
I purchased my NGK plugs from Amazon they ran me $52.47. While back there replace the PCV valve (Amazon $9.63), most will say replace the spark plug tubes too. Oh also I replaced the spark plug coil connectors think they ran @$5 or so for all 6 they are easy to just remove and replace the plastic they get very brittle over time.
Nice of them to only charge you $30 labor for something that will take them less than 5 mins while back there (spark plug change out).
I've seen dealers quote $75 to change the engine air filter on a Jaguar X150, it took me less than 5 mins from popping the hood to closing it no tools needed. "Stupidity and laziness has it's costs"
This isn't a hard job but does take time I did mine late last year took me @ 6 hours I took my time made sure everything was perfect
Apparently they want to do the valve cover gasket because it's been leaking and it's a good time to do both (makes sense) but that price is not going to work for me! This isn't even from a dealer either. Crazy
