Default AC Mode Servo help

I just replaced my ac mode servo, with some help from the video here (https://www.clublexus.com/forums/rx-...ode-servo.html) Its quiet now, however I only get air through the upper vents, nothing happens when I try to change to feet, defrost, or some combination. I changed the servo because it was making a horrible racket clicking, etc., though the modes were still working. I think one of the slots didn't line up with the pins properly, at any rate I've got to pull it out again.

The question is, is there a 'neutral' point where all those pins need to be to go in the servo?

I just replaced the mode control servo on my son's GS430. I just ensured the pin on the servo wiper was in the track of the damper wiper and the pin on the other wiper which is on the duct is in the track of the servo wiper. I found it was easy if the servo wiper was at the floor position. But to answer your question there is no neutral position. Hope this helps.

Thanks for that - ours on the rx must be different, there are 3 channels on the disk on the servo.

here's a shot showing the worn out contact points.

I've had it on and off twice now and think I'm only getting two of the channels lined up properly. I think I'm done being on my back under the steering wheel for the night though...

The servo does spin the disk, I did test that before installing.

Yes. The GS430 servo appears to be quite a bit different than your's. I didn't attempt to rebuild mine. I just replaced the faulty servo with a brand new unit so I won't be of any help. Sorry about that.

I'm not rebuilding it, just took it apart to see/confirm the issue.

Thumbs down

It's been in and out a few more times and I just can't seem to line up these pins properly. I'm watching the blend door for the floor vents and it never really opens all the way. The defrost is opening/closing but seems to be open on the foot selection. Kind of at a loss here.

I had the same problem after I replaced mine. I just ran the AC diagnostics which exercises all the vents in sequence. Doing that didn’t fix it but it did improve. I noticed that I could get the vents to open if I kept changing the between the vent settings when I had blower on max and either max hot/cold. I’d say it’s working correctly now especially after I recently recharged my AC. Changing that servo was a pretty big PITA but I had to do it. You can search the forum for how to run the diagnostics but if you don’t have luck finding it I have the repair manual and can probably help you out.

Well I had had enough and dropped it off at my indy. His technician gave it a shot and didn't have any luck either.

More research was required and I eventually found a video of the same part going into a Sienna... video wasn't much help BUT the comments were. One comment proposes that you needed to plug in the servo (not installed, just hold it in your hand), set the the mode to defrost and let the servo spin to defrost orientation, then move all the flaps so that the air was being directed to defrost, then install the servo. Another comment is basically the same but uses the floor setting. I passed that along to my indy; long story short he tried defrost first but the floor setting was what allowed him to get it all lined up correctly. Hope this helps someone in the future...
