Default Womp womp womp sound when braking

Hi all:

Couple weeks ago the wife mentioned that the car was making a noise on braking.

I drove it and there’s a womp womp womp when braking that you can feel/hear through the body of the car from the drivers side front wheel area. You don’t feel anything in the brake pedal or the steering wheel.

We’ve had the car for 120K+ miles or so so this is something new. It coincides with an alignment I had done at Midas to fix slight wobbling above 70mph. Note: the alignment fixed that.

I took it to my local service shop and they said the only thing that looks suspect was the sway bar link on that side. This made sense because I replaced the links when we bought the car and used a Rockauto part instead of OEM. I replaced with OEM, but the womp womp persists.

This may be a long shot but any ideas?

A good alignment shop would check the suspension before touching anything. If they overlooked it, they owe you a realignment after the fix [It is very unlikely that the alignment would be thrown off], but worth discussing it with the shop ... start by ... did they check all suspension before alignment.

My hunch is that it is a tire. I would start by doing a wheel swap front l <-> front r [that is if you do not have directional tires. If you do then back to front on the suspect side]. Reason I suggest front swap as the change will be more obvious. This would eliminate or confirm that it the tires.
