Hello everyone, I have not been able to find anything on my Lexus RX300 as far as the color and its rarity. I have a fully Black RX300 but it has gold looking decals instead of the silver ones. Does anyone know what the deal is with this? Also something that I have never seen on this model car is that there is a gold colored line on the whole side of the car on both sides. Same color as the decals. Can anyone enlighten me?

Do the nicer looking rims have anything to do with it?

On my 99, I had that trim, the gold decals and the gold colored line when I purchased it used. From what I recall, this was part of some premium package. Literally, the previous owner got everything they could except the trailer hitch and even a Lojack out the door.

Update: went back to my lexus owners site and looked up when the previous owner of my RX300 took delivery in late 1998 and it showed this as a GOLD INSTALL. You might see something if you sign up here, https://drivers.lexus.com/lexusdrivers and check the vehicle history

As far as I can tell it’s just a black RX with the “gold” package, which was an optional extra for any buyer.

The wheels appear to be aftermarket.

seems like black is generally more rare but that’s just my opinion based on what I’ve seen for sale.

so in short, nothing “rare” - not like one of the red ones (I think red is really rare) or one of the “Silversport” models which are very low production, I believe.

I've seen a few black ones with gold trim, not that rare around here.

As far as I know certain year LS models were offered with gold emblems from factory. Back then there was group of options termed "dealer requested/installed options" [Even today dealers offer it like tint, clear masks etc]. The difference was that these options were typically installed while the vehicle was in transit [some say off Dubai for vehicles arriving to Gulf ports. Not sure how or if the vehicles arrived on West Coast]. RX are mass produced [best selling models] and factory based uniqueness only happened during transition, clearly a marketing ploy to sell the dying model, but still volume produced.

Gold emblems were popular early 90's and the popularity faded by the end of the last century. Personally they looked good with certain vehicle colors.

I still see plenty of first gen RX on roads. In fact the competitors competing offers of late 90's are very rare. That is a testament for how good these vehicles are.

Most of the longterm CL RX owners have lost their vehicles due to accidents another testament to RX being a near perfect vehicle.

The service history shows the gold package being installed on 7/2000 when my car had 5 miles on it so I think the dealer did that. It looked nice with the 2000 model tail lamps, but I never liked the gold packages. I upgraded to newer tail lamps and replaced the gold package with a chrome version.

The gold lines are just pin striping. They could be painted on (as mine are) but more common are just thin vinyl like you buy at the auto parts store.

It was 2001 Lexus RX300 Silversport edition.

The "gold package" was a "Port Installed Extra" solely to pad the dealers profit! That, along with the gold pinstripe, was probably on a side sticker for an additional $1500!

Edit: If this car had been sold in the UK, it would have been termed a "John Player Special"!
