speaker replacement
Wow, thanks a ton for the video link. This is a really straight forward, clean and professional looking result. The local shop wanted $200 labor to install new speakers because of "modifications." This looks more straightforward. I have decided find Kenwood speakers as shown and go for this approach. Also, it is a good excuse with my wife to get the dremmel cutting tool. "No job so small that I can't get a new tool out of it."
I set up my computer on the seat and just followed this step by step - except instead of a rotary cutting tool I used a vibrating saw with a narrow blade. I bought a pair of Kenwood KFC-1666 speakers online for about $45 with shipping. I did the drivers side first and it took about an hour as I was very careful and double checked every step. Passenger side took about half an hour. I thought all the speakers in the car were shot but as suggested above, it was the base speakers where the problem was and this fixed that. Sounds very nice and looks completely stock.
