Haven’t driven my RX in a couple months because I bought a 3IS. It is now stuck in Park gear and will not come out of it at all. This has happened once before and I had to pop the cover that had the shift interlock override button in it. When I went to put the cover back however long ago, it got wedged and is now completely stuck into the shift column surrounding piece (attached photo on how wedged it is) any tips?
Got it. Thank you for the help!

First determine the reason that you can't shift ..
Interlock or wedged cover?
Interlock can be locking you out due to fuses or bad brake switch. [check rear brake lights on application of brake].
Cover .. the trick is to reverse the process ... if a corner was pulled, try pushing. Check prices of replacement and just use dremel to saw off [worst case].
Double posted ... The fuse you need to check is the brake fuse [only after confirming the brake lights dont light up]. The brake switch has limited life and a few members have reported issues with it. The fuse is fairly robust, unless something physically goes bad with the wiring or an accessory is tapped into it.

The brake lights do function correctly. Could it still be the fuse?

If the brake lights [not the tail lights .... just confirming] work then the fuse is good and the interlock relay should release the lock.
Do you observe the cover preventing the movement?
Or the side button on the lever [going by memory here ... newer versions have a shift gate and first gen had a side button release].
There is also a PRND switch on the transmission.
And at least two members have reported linkage problems ... but with the cover off, you should be able to see that [only top end].

Correct the brake lights work glow when I press on the brake pedal. This has happened before but I popped the cover for the button and it worked. Now the cover is wedged and stuck. I’ve tried to take a hammer to it and it still won’t bulge. Was wondering if I could take it apart and push the interlock button with it all apart
