I'm a new poster to the site. Apologies if not posting correctly. I have never done a timing belt before and doing the full kit plus cam & crank seals on my 2000 RX300 with 125K miles(bought used). Trying to do proper job and avoid an adventure. When I pull the old water pump off, does all the old coolant effectively drain out? I don't want to go hunting for the drain plugs on the engine block ahead of time if all old stuff comes out with old pump. I did drain and refill with distilled water from radiator plug... only 1.5 gallons came out. Ran engine for 10 minutes or so for modified flush. Thank you.
I just did my rx300 timing belt and water pump, i used the toyota 1 gallon red coolant and 1 gallon of distilled water, and still not enough, i have to top off with an additional 16.9 fl oz of red coolant and 16.9 fl oz of distill water, now the coolant is a little over the F mark on the coolant reservoir, so i refilled total of 2 gallon 33.8 oz. back in.
but i believe there were still small amount of old coolant in the engine blocks heater core trapped in the pocket, not able to drain out, unless drain from engine block also.

Welcome to Club Lexus. We are cool group and new members are always welcome.
May I ask why do you want to flush? Is there an issue with the old that a simple drain and fill will not work? Once you go down the flush route mot likely you will not be using a 50-50mix. What will be left behind would be the last-remaining + diluted by flush agent. So if you must flush try to use distilled water.
Realistically, it won't be a disaster if you dont have a 50-50 mix. Here in Central Texas, I prefer to keep a higher percentage of H20. Mix ratio chart on the jug lists the optimum mix based on the region you live in.
There is a very cheap instrument you can buy which can tell you the mix ratio you have. I would only suggest it to the folks who are obsessed with precision.
Thank you much both. Salimshah I appreciate your advice on other forum posts and LexMex (MexLex?) on RX & Toyota things. My flush is in conjunction with replacing the water pump and timing belt. Prior to pulling passenger front tire yesterday, the rear drain plug was MIA and couldn't tell where the thing was from camera shots online.. for any attempting, you gotta jack car, pull tire (or maybe turn wheel), then look thru on an angle from back side of wheel well towards front and there it is, spout and all. I'll try to take a good pic with perspectiive. Looks like ratcet and extensions and a swivel by socket make life easier. Also I marked crank bolt and harmonic balancer with alignment marks figuring when the marks line up on end job, that I'm close on impact wrench doing its thing. (torquing to 159 ft pounds) Also, as a tip from water pump people, they say to put the juice (coolant) in the vehicle and manually turn the pump by hand 10 spins or so to get thing lubed up a little before full engine start or hand crank to check alignment marks on timing.
