Default Rx 300 clicking noise

I have a Lexus RX 300 making a creaking noise coming from the glove box. It starts when the ac is turned down to 69 degrees. It stops when the heater is turned on. Any thoughts?

One of the two servos that are in there. Search "air mix servo"

An aftermarket servo is about $40 and a Lexus part is about $80 or so for the servo. It is about one hour of labor time for a mechanic, but really this is a DIY job.

Dealer wants $650 for ONE servo! For both, they'd probably tack on an additional $150-$250. They are a b_tch to get at, but there are plenty of DIY instructions on this site.

I was thinking of the actuator, sorry for confusing him.

Don't be afraid to do it yourself. I did the air mix servo and the air mode servos both myself. One is super easy and the other is behind those aluminum pipes and that is the one that is more difficult. It is definitely doable though. Make sure to just do both. If one is clicking and dying then the other will for sure be right around the corner.

I think I spent $99 on one unit and $125 on the other. I remember my local dealership wanted to charge me $500 for EACH unit and that didn't include the labor. So I'm sure it would have been around $1200 to have the dealership do it.

The servos can be found everywhere online. I bought mine off Amazon, not sure if those were the absolute cheapest prices but they were close. When you order them, they might say "Toyota" on them instead of "Lexus", it's the same parts though.

I think we were talking about the same thing. The price of the part is about what you said. The dealer price I quoted was the installed price.

I just took the glove box off, followed a video and blew out the servos and my heat and a/c work great. I know I will have to replace the servos soon but for now it was an easy fix thanks to a thread I found here. My mechanic quoted $500!
