Default Engine Immobilizer

Accidently put my 09 RX key in my 00 RXs ignition. It activated the engine immobilizer, I'm guessing, because the correct key will insert but not turn. How do I reset the system? I tried the driver door lock-unlock thing with no success. Also unhooked & reconnected battery. Also no success.

the immobilizer works through electronic means and shouldn't affect the mechanical mechanism to the key cylinder. Try cranking the wheel to the left or right when attempting to turn the key.

Follow fastnoypi's advice and if it fails, you may need locksmiths help. As the key and the cylinder age with repeated use the adapt to the wear. Once a different key is used the cylinder hangs. As a desperate measure (after making sure you have the right key) people have had success with additional leverage with pliers. Be careful as it can be destructive too.

Immobilizer just kills the spark and key still works and the starter would spin the engine, except there will be no spark and thus the engine can not run.

Thanks for the tips. As it turns out, a squirt of WD40 and a few brisk taps with the business end of a wrench did the trick. Apparently it was a sticking tumbler was caused by the improper key pushing them where they were not used to going (per local Lexus dealer). All I really know is that it works now! - T
