I am going to hook a light trailer up and wanted to monitor the transmission temperature before I do so.

I put a very thin Hayden transmission cooler on my 2001 RX 300 and switched the trans fluid to Max Life full synthetic fluid. the best method is to drain the fluid out of the transmission pan thru the drain plug also don forget to by some crush washers for the drain plug.
I got my Max Life at Auto Zone for about $20.00 for a four quart jug it takes just about that much to drain the trans fluid. I would take the pan out the first time and change the filter and do 3 more drain and fills.

I have the stock tranny cooler and I already replaced the filter and flushed it the fluid out. Pumping a couple quarts through until the fluid came out cherry red. I wanted to get a base temp setting so when I do get a trailer, I can monitor the increase through a gauge.

You can either install an electric autometer type gauge in the truck or buy a wifi obd2 thing from ebay and an app for your phone. I use the engine link app all in for $8.

Note, when I upgraded my iphone ios from 10 to ios 11 the phone will no longer connect to the wifi obd2 thing. I have to use an older ipad with ios 10 to monitor the vehicle.

I removed the factory trans cooler and installed a better b&m cooler infront of the ac condenser. The factory unit was ineffectual. There is no air flow to cool it.

Do you have any pictures of the new trans cooler and what parts you sourced?

Default Proper liquid temperatures

I've got a Veepeak bluetooth OBD II reader with the torque app.

2hr trips ~100miles ~80MPH @night(~78F) are regular. My tranny gets 88C(190F) and Coolant 85C(185F) =/..

What parameters do you guys suggest for long drives? It'd be amazing to install new radiator&Tranny cooler like Drcoffee *drool*

ATF breaks down above 170* F. Ideally, normal driving should be 160-170* with occassional spikes to 190*. ATF can last 100,000 miles if kept clean and cool.

I did the car's 1st tranny flush @175K(15,000K ago) it was dark brown almost black, burnt with little shavings. Most were collected via filter/magnets. Filter clogged and magnets...magnetized? to its max limit

Now drain&fill may dilute and improve current ATF condition but I am uneeasy after hearing the myth/others' past experiences that frequent changing of old dirty ATF will kill tranny)

What is the custom PID you entered for this?
Can you post it?
Thanks!
