I recently rear ended someone and destroyed my driver side headlight. Unfortunately I can't afford the 1500$ for a new HID one that is currently installed with. I do see that online they sell Halogens for considerably less. Is there a way to downgrade to halogens be it splicing different harnesses or whatever needs to be done. If so how? Please I'm at a loss and I've called so many people already.
It's a 2001 and the whole assembly is destroyed. The wiring is fine though. What do you mean about getting into the electronics?
Is the surrounding intact? If you get a replacement headlight, can it fit back in its place? If not you will need body work/repair done .. which can be expensive.
The HID have leveling motor (wires), the bulbs are driven differently ,,, [same difference between incandicent and filament bulb] ... [well the new florescent have every thing encapsulated in one package, but if you remember the long rods you will get the picture]
The body will be repair. But what needs to happen to use a halogen headlight assembly not just bulbs.
I gave you the best advice and researched a possible source for you. Please keep looking and you may find a cheaper lamp. Some times a person just takes a path and keeps on it without reconsidering. I would urge you to reconsider.
To answer your question ,, if you plan to replace both then multiply the things and 2.
Non HID lamp assembly + bulbs.
Have an electrician build you a relay(s) + harness to connect to the halogen bulb.
Have the electrician remove the ballast used for HID [the relay would replace the ballast]
Unknown: DRL and Fog lamp interact with the high and low beam. Make sure the electrician can figure the interaction out.
