Side mirrors wont dim or brigten up
Has anyone had the problem with their mirrors not going dim or going bright, mine are constantly dark day and night I cannot get them do anything. The motors for changing up and down in and out work just fine. The dealer wants approximately $700-$800 for the mirrors way too expensive any ideas what's going on

Do you have something blocking the light sensor on the interior rear view mirror?
Did you try turning off the dimmer feature?

Did the dealer already diagnose the problem and gave you the repair estimate, or it is just an estimate before diagnosing the problem.
Reason I ask is, if the problem has been diagnosed then our effort here would not help you (barring bad diagnosis).
RX (most as sold in US) have the dimming mechanism linked among the center rear view and side rear view mirrors. Are all three not responding to the auto-dimmer?
Max Steel has already mentioned two items.
I would also try this ,,, Move the RX out in the sun (daylight) and then tile the rear view mirror up and down till the you can see the brightest reflection. Then check if the mirror dims at night.

The interior mirror dims just fine the 2 outside mirrors won't do anything, I was told that they won't work with a electrical current after certain amount of years. HAS ANYONE HAD THIS PROBLEM WITH THEIR OUTSIDE MIRRORS CHIME IN.

I don't have this problem.
If they are dark even with the car off they have probably failed.

They sell the side view mirrors on amazon for 31.75 each. They are non auto dim but they worked just fine. I replaced one and posted instructions on this site. Very easy to replace.

you don't need to replace the mirrors, just the glass and you can buy the auto-dim glass:
you didn't list what year/model vehicle you have but here is an ebay sale on what you need for a sample.

if you need help installing them I am in SoCal, I've done the glass replacement on several vehicles with the auto dim, GM, Chrysler, MBZ, etc. hit me up if you want help, it's actually a very simple and quick process if the issue is simply the glass.
The gel used in the mirror breaks down over time due to weather (much faster in the cold areas) and then it "leaks" into the glass and won't retract. That is what it sounds like has happened to yours.

there is a sensor on the back side and on the glass side, if there is more light being sensed on the glass side than the back side, then the mirrors will darken.
not all vehicles may have the auto dim on the external AND internal mirrors, you would need to check your build/options sheet.
also some vehicles only have the drivers side and internal mirror auto dim, the passenger mirror does not.
however in any case where the outside mirrors dim, they do so as a loop through the internal mirror, so if the inside mirror isn't dimming the outside mirrors won't, but if the vehicle is equipped with auto dim outside mirrors and the inside mirror dims and the outside mirrors don't then there is an issue with the outside mirrors.
is that confusing enough?
