Need Recommendation: PPG or Pilkington windshield Glass
Hi,
Did a search and found some old threads about PPG but not much about the Pilkington branded windshield glass.
And since over the years quality changes i thought it fit to get a new recommendation.
While shopping around I am told that PPG as well as Pilkington windshield glasses are now made in China. Pilkington does have some manufacturing in US/Canada/Mexico but there is a high chance that the Pilkington glass that i will get will be made in China.
Anyways 2 questions:
- Anyone has suggestion on PPG vs Pilkington for our RX300? And in fact PPG is $20 cheaper than Pilkington.
- Does anyone know or thinks if there are different grades of glasses made by Pilkington or PPG. One shop who quoted me higher price mentioned to me about they will be using Premium glass as opposed to some other shops who may use the lower grade glass from the same manufacturer. Sounded like a selling tactics.
Thanks in advance for the help!

I had the same concerns when i was having glass replaced while living in AZ. I ended up with Pilkington glass in the end. While discussing the glass options and origins I was told they are very close to the same quality due to lamination standards to meet US safety glass. The options of tint along the top or around the placement of the rear view mirror is the thing that sticks out the most. Ask if your installer has different windshields to compare. Its these slight differences you will notice different than factory glass.
