Default blower motor

I have a issue currently with my rx. The blower motor for the hvac system is on its last leg(s) as its making a very loud noise upon initial startup of the vehicle This has been confirmed by 2 different sources. . How hard is it to change out the blower motor and is this something i may be able to tackle myself?

Really easy man, it's only a plastic cover, 3 screws and a electrical connector and the whole blower motor comes right out, just look under the passenger side foot well and you'll see it, matter of fact I'll snap a pic for ya!

Plastic cover under passenger dash.

Simply pops right off, you might have to give it a little tug, pull from the front of it so you don't accidently break a clip.

After you successfully pop off the cover you will see the blower, I tried to put this in detail on where the bolts are, don't use a Phillips head, use a proper socket and rachet.

I did get a few quotes on getting this done and the issue isnt so much the labor cost because the labor for it is pretty inexpensive; its just the part itself that is $$$$!!!! and currently i have a courtesy vehicle until me and my parents figure this out on what to do. I would attempt to do it myself but right now I just do not have the time for it as Im busy w work and such.and so because of that i may just have to bite the bullet so to speak and get it done by the dealer.

The blower motor/squirrel cage itself is only about $50. Are they replacing the whole HVAC unit?

as far as I know; no. Just the motor itself i believe. and no; the part is a lot more than 50 bucks my "friend". Its in the hundreds because its not aftermarket. Its lexus oem. The labor however is very inexpensive at I believe only like 30 bucks. Its the part that is a lot more.

If you can find a dealership or garage that will charge 30 bucks for labor for this job you found yourself a unicorn. You might as well line up other jobs for them to do.

Matt you are getting more help than what you want. Dont you agree?

You can secure a used blower motor for much less than a new one. Cant say much about how long a life it would have. There are some vendors like LKQ which give warranty too.

Well, you can pay more for the OE part (about $200) but I wouldn't spend that kind of money on such an old car.

Well; thats exactly why I wouldnt trust a used one salim. While some may not think it may be worth putting that kinda $ into such a old vehicle; I do however simply for the reason being that over here in the desert southwest; especially once its gets to about the end of april beginning of may; most people do not want to be w/o a/c either in their home(s) or their vehicle! and neither do I. I dont want to drive around in a "hot box" w/o a/c. Its more than immoral but its actually dangerous because of intense heat. nuf said.
