Question New Lexus owner!

Hi all,

Just got my '99 RX tonight, AWD with cloth seats and no sunroof. I didn't purchase my car from a Lexus dealer and unfortunately they didn't have the owner's manual, however, I requested they order one for me. I'm also worried that I'm missing some items that should have come as OEM equipment... until I get an owner's manual, I'm lost. Can you veteran owner's out there please answer some questions for me. Thanks.

1. Not sure what the official color of my car is, it looks silver/grey yet has a hint of bronze. I know for sure it's not Burnished Gold, but is it Millenium Silver? Victorian Silver? Other? I believe the paint code is: 01C0 SLVR 9923

2. I don't see a toolkit nor a firstaid kit, they must be in the trunk but are they hidden away?

3. Do all RXs come with a factory alarm system, for example, shock sensor, glass breakage, tilt sensor, etc... I pressed the Panic button and the horn "honks" and light blinks, does that mean I have a factory alarm? Does anyone use an anti-theft steering wheel bar? Is it necessary?

4. I've read somewhere that the non-Nak stereo system has 7 speakers, however, I only count 6; one in each door and two tweets on the dash, where is the seventh? I assume it must be a subwoofer.

Thanks

....oh... one more question...

5. Are the owner's manuals available for download over the 'net?

Welcome to CL

I would suggest that you take your RX to Lexus dealership and run inquiry about past dealer performed maintainance on your new ride. (dealerships are linked). They can also help with the color question.

Manual can be obtained through Lexus for free.

First aid kit is velcro attached to an exposed surface in the trunk.

Open the spare area and the tool kit consists of Lug wrench, pliers, screw drive. Check the jack as well as the crank handle for the jack.

The alarm in RX when armed is only activated if a locked door is opened from inside (nothing happens when some one breaks the window but if s/he reaches in and pulls the lever to open the door, the alarm sounds). Without the registered key the engine does not run. (Always keep the spare in a safe place as If you lose all orignal keys ... the repair is in thousands of dollars)

Subwoofer is under the front passenger seat.

Thanks Salim!

I don't see a first aid nor toolkit anywhere, the previouse owner must have kept it.

I'm in Canada, is it possible that the Cdn models never had the firstaid/toolkit?

Thanks.

Smile Welcome aboard!

You might want to try www.irontoad.com for the first aid and tool kits. I just ordered new floormats from them this week and paid less than half of what my dealer's parts department wanted. Several on this forum have had good experiences with these folks, and I'm not aware of anyone who came away unhappy.

One tip that may save you some embarassment on that "alarm": Note that by pressing the "unlock" button on the key once, then holding it down for a few seconds you can unlock all doors and roll down your windows. Well, that's helpful to those of us in tropical climes...

If you don't open a door or liftgate within 30 seconds, you will hear the doors relock themselves. I guess it figures you didn't really mean it.

Now you have your windows open and doors locked - but resist the tempation to simply reach inside and open the door, rather than to press the unlock button again. If you don't you will trigger the alarm - a rather embarassing mistake I made (twice) at a couple of weddings! OK, I'm a slow learner.

Congrats on your new ride, and welcome to CL, MyRX!

I hope you have the jack, crank and tool to loosen/tighten the lug nuts. Missing the pliers and the screw driver is not a big issue. Similarly, you can pickup a more comprehensive first aid kit from a drugstore.

It has been a while, but you can register at luxus.com with the VIN number.

The RX300 comes standard with an alarm and engine immobilizer in Canada. The alarm, however, does not feature a motion sensor, tilt sensor, or a glass breakage sensor. Try looking in the passenger side compartment of the cargo area, this is usually the location of the first aid kit. The tool kit is usually located below the floor of the cargo area, to the right of the spare tire in the black plastic kidney shaped tray. It is in a black vinyl pouch with a velcro strap. Locking wheel nuts are also standard in Canada and the key for them should also be in your tool kit. The jack is located under the kidney shaped tray. Hope this helps.
