I too had the same problem, Once you press on the brake, the light will come out. I check every bulb and could not find it. I decide to just wait till it completely dies.

The other day I decided to buy a new bulb for my 3rd brake light, and hola it fixed it. The old bulb did not look like its been short or anything. replace your bulbs before you start messing around with your wiring, easier and cheaper .

good luck bro,

Ge

Update on my bulb out issue: After further checking, it appeared that indeed the culprit might be the 3rd brake light on my 2001 car. It was completely out when I checked today. I swear it was on the first time I check the brake lights two days ago. Anyway, I had my local mechanic replace the bulb and to my dismay, I have a working 3rd brake light....but....the idiot light on the dash is still on. Maybe the bulb he used isn't a proper match. I don't know. Or maybe it could be a bad solder in the trunk as someone else mentioned. All the lights seem to glow with the same brightness and consistency so I can not visibly tell which (if any) bulbs may be a bad replacement match. So long story short....mine is still a work in progress.

People keep intermingling the issue.

To make sure it is brake bulb, there should be no warning lit till you apply brakes for the first time after starting.

Did I mistake the bulb out warning display for something other than what I presumed manual stated it referred to? The light does indeed only illuminate after the ignition is switched on followed by depressing the brake pedal. Otherwise, it is not illuminated. From my reading on the manual, this refers to a brake light. Am I confused? Misinformed?

No you are not. Your's is a brake light problem ,,, thank you for confirming.

The thread is intertwined with tail light and brake light problems.
