In addition to the posts above, the lights are on for a specific reason. An educated guess as to the problem may be perfectly correct. But we don't have to guess. Take your car to a local parts store and they will scan the codes related to the warning lamps for free. Post the codes here with the parts store guy/gal comments (if any).

lights went out next day, tried to remove negative battery cable since car had just been in shop (for brakes) -but didn't have ratchet ! Still, will take to have computer check. Thanks again
