Default ATF IV using as Power steering fluid?

Can I use Toyota ATF IV from my transmission for the Steering fluid? I would like to flush and fill the power steering.

Yes, that is what it's spec'd for!

You can also use Mobil 1 ATF.

Sure can. It's the same stuff.

Power steering fluid is just lightweight oil. That systems isn't particularly picky about the oil used, as long as it's light, unlike transmissions.

There are exclusions ,,, like Honda insists on using Honda Steering fluid only.

If I am not mistaken, for RX you can use Dexron for steering pump. Toyota type IV can be safely used too. Although I prefer and use the synthetic mobile 1 Atf.

I would have to dig for where I saw it, but I'm almost positive that Toyota/Lexus specifically says to not use T-IV, only Dextron. They are a little different.

You need to use Dextron fluid in there.

I stand corrected.

It is spec'd for Dextron, according to the owner's manual.

However, many people on this forum are using T-IV or ATF compatible with T-IV such as Mobil 1 ATF.

It is completely safe to use T-IV in the power steering system.

I can't find where I saw it, I think it was something to do with warranty claims on RX330's that were running T-IV, not sure how they would know the difference.

Mobil 1 specs for Dextron, so is basicly is Dextron.

For comparison sakes, T-IV is also basically Dextron if you want to go with the core components, since T-IV is just Dextron III plus friction modifiers.
