Default Sell or fix?

I have a 2003 rx300 with 111000 miles on it and am looking at close to $3000 in repairs to transmission. Kelly blue book estimates trade in value at about $7000. What would you do? I love the car but is it worth it at this point? Thanks!

Welcome to Club Lexus!

I would fix it. The 03's in my area sell for at least 9k. Trade in will be low like you mentioned at $7k, but kbb isn't accurate. It's cheaper to fix the trans than to make car payments. And, at only 111k miles there is a lot of life left in it after you fix the trans.

I found a 2003 with 131,000 on it for $9,900 and it was as low as I could find. I doubt a dealer would give you 7k in trade in, and to buy an equivalent of yours, you'd have to add in another $3k anyway for a car with unknown history. I'd say, fix it.

Fix it. That car will last you at least to 300k if taken care of.

Agree - fix it. My '99 tranny failed at 86k - fortunately it was under CPO extended warranty, but I now have 213k and have had no further tranny problems - just drain/refill ATF every 3rd oil change.

I'm with everyone else. It's much more cost-effective to fix a known, well-built vehicle, than to speculate on a newer used one.

More cost-effective than even a new one in a lower quality class, for that matter.
