Default Air intake box gaping open

I just bought this 99 RX300 last week and have been doing some routine maintenance such as oil change, Lexmex MAF and throttle body clean out (thanks LexMex) as well as changing the airfilter. When I put the breather box back on I noticed that it wasn't "seating". The Left side doesn't grab. Does anyone have a pic so that I can see what I'm missing or what might be broken? Everything looks right but I think I might be missing clamps or something. Thanks

Hard to tell if the plastic is broken off.

The cover has the "L" ( _| ) piece which should go under the base side ways U ("c. Unhook the clips and try to slide the top cover under the U.

It should look lik

c _| <= best picture I can draw. I hope you get the idea.

Maybe you have the filter in wrong or not seated properly.

Look at the 4th step, and look at second 14. You will see what Salim is talking about.

Okay, I checked again and indeed the bottom tabs are broken. If you look in the picture you can see the corners of the lower "grab" tabs are broken. New box? Bone yard? or is there a way to clamp these areas down? Short self tapping sheet metal screws?

Take the filter out to test.

Finesse is required and not so much force. The red pointers you marked are sort of an hinge as you drop the cover down for the clasps to catch. The passenger side of the cover does not have the clips for that very reason.

Once you do the dry run (without filter), you can try with the filter. This time you will need a slight pressure to squeeze the rubber around the edge of the filter (which forms a seal).

It is a bit irritating but simple enough.

You can take zip-ties and or short bungee cords till you find the right box.

other alternative is to go for a air-intake mod.

A screw through each tab did the trick. The filter fit was fine. Now about that 0330 code... Crap!

code 0330 is your knock sensor code. sometimes this is triggered by the 02 sensors going bad, or it just might be the knock sensor itself. have them both tested first before replacing anything.

I'm replacing both. Spark plugs too while I'm at it.
